That’s a great deal on the Rosco P bass at Rocket. If want to keep the budget way down, the new MIM Fender Player Bass is a great bass. I’ve played a couple as good as US Fenders.

That is a good deal on a Roscoe bass. Oh and Joe, I was just jabbing you on the Fender line yesterday. I would buy one myself if I could ever spend quality time with one and actually get one with a quality setup. The new Elites are very nice basses. I don't care for the weight but they are nice.

So the difference is anywhere from $500 to basically even. I've always liked playing something that others weren't. I avoided Fender for years because of this mentality. I did play jazz basses (usually modded) here and there over the years. I have matured a bit. I'm not anti-Fender, but I also like my Roscoe's.

If I was in the market for a Fender, the only way that I could do it is with the American Elite series. Unless I am missing something with the other models, I don't have any interest in owning a bass that I need to remove the neck from the body for a truss rod adjustment.

I suspect you will get more money back if you get the Roscoe and don't bond with it. I think that thing is definitely priced right!

Of course, with conversations like this I kinda feel like a junkie trying to convince another junkie to take another hit!

Your Roscoe 5 is still my favorite of all the various instruments that ever made an appearance at the regional get-togethers I went to, by far.

I played the Roscoe Classic PJ (passive with Honey Badgers) that Gregg had when I visited Rocket a while back and loved it. It totally has given me a bad case of PJ GAS ever since. I can totally see buying a Roscoe Classic. OTOH, I played a Fender Elite P that played and sounded great, and the quality and sound of my Sire fretless jazz makes me think that a gen2 P7 might be a far less expensive way to scratch this itch.

Since retiring and moving to Oregon I have yet to start gigging here (and most of my playing is on upright) so it’s hard to justify adding a sixth bass guitar (and I’m not anxious to part with any of the five). So this is likely to remain pipe dreaming for now, but I totally get your yearning for that Roscoe P bass!

We’ll see- my SKB is still in the shop, but it ia a perfect example of why I want to stop buying basses that need changes- it’s seems like it’s been getting “tweaked” more than I’ve had it to play...

I've liked the MIM P's I've played as well.

I’m getting one more this summer so I can load Nickel RW’s on one. That’ll give me the Roscoe 5 with D’addario Nickel RW’s, a P-Bass with La Bella Deep Talking flats, a P/J with La Bella Deep Talking flats and a P-Bass with nickel RW’s. That will round out my fretted needs. The Gecko with EB Cobalt flats) will provide the fretless needs.
And I can always change things up a bit loading the D’addario Chomes on one of the P-Basses.

Had a SKB3006 and sold it a few years ago.
Just struck a deal with GC on a used LG3005.
Going to send it to KR to refin the neck cause its an oldie but goodie. SN3070.
I like resurrecting things.

I feel like this might be me. I love (haven’t played but still) the Classics but I can get a decent P (they all sound basically like a P) and maybe something else (I still May need an acoustic guitar to teach with next year) for the same amount. I like to buy Roscoe but I only have so much “disposable” cash, you know.

Here are a few pics of my builds in progress. The black flamed maple will be the fretless with an unlined black diamondwood board. The light amber quilt will have the Pau Ferro board and be a fretted. Both are SKB 5s with Bartolini systems.

I haven't posted here for a bit regarding my build. I am in the patiently waiting / excitedly anticipating stage as it progresses. This is the most recent progress shot. Body is sanded, on its way to its next step. Neck has logo and signature, and also reportedly now has Diamondwood nut. Ahh, progress!

Keith is really good at progress reports. I'm thinking 2 more weeks and I'll have mine as he told me last night that he plans on do the final clear coats this weekend. Definitely excited to get this bass.
