Does anyone have experience with 5 string Roscoe P/Js? I see only JJ, J/MM, or Soapbars but no P/J. I like P/J for 4-strings, but was wondering how the P pickup handles the low B. Does the lack of them indicate that they don't do as well?

I had this SKB P/J 5 for a few years . . . absolutely killer B/E balance, very articulate.
SOLD - Roscoe SKB Custom 5 P/J Aguilar
My first Roscoe was a 5 string -Aguilar PJ bass. It was what sold me on Roscoe basses. Very good sounding pickups and diverse in tone.
This maybe the only other 5 P/J I've found so far. I've seen a few 4 string Roscoe P/J though, so was curious why the "lack" of 5s. Other than they people who own them are not selling them.
I guess I should clarify that I've seen some Classic 5 P/Js, but when I thinking of Roscoe I'm thinking of the Century/SKB/LG. I think the classics are only 19mm and 34" scale, but I would check one out though if one popped up near me. So I guess I'm a bit of a choosing beggar.

The B on this LG is everything you would expect from a Roscoe. The Bart P is definitely a bit stronger than the J.
So what does it give you? It's not a Fender P bass. It's a Roscoe, with some strong P/J flavor added.
You can't make beef taste like chicken, but you can season the beef with that sexy jerk recipe and really get a blend of two worlds...

It may be a spacing illusion but looks like the J is closer to the bridge or P closer to the neck than normal? Have you ever been curious to try an Aguilar setup in that bass?

It may be the smaller LG body creating the illusion.
The Bart and Aggy pickups are different sizes, and aren't interchangeable without some routing and ugliness. While I'm an Aguilar amp kind of guy (big fan of my AG700), IMO Barts just sound "right" to my ear on a Roscoe bass.
If you get curious, Keith will definitely tell you all about it. I got the impression that he's more of a Bart guys as well. Rik on the other hand, he's a Darkglass fan.
No, I just stole the pics from their FB page. I deleted FB a year ago after deciding that arguing with antivaxx wine moms and the racist uncles that infest it was not healthy...but I still visit the Roscoe page once a week since that’s the only place they post progress pics.
I'm looking at the spec sheet on the Roscoe website, and to my math, I spec out a Standard Plus and it's cheaper than the base Custom even before adding anything. What am I missing that accounts for the difference in price? (I'm not accounting for price of the wood top, because that can vary but I would assume that's a wash because the price for the top is the same whether it is for a Standard Plus or a Custom.)

What options are you taking with the SP that isn't in part of the base Custom?
Custom gets you a carved top, a matching headstock, different woods in the neck, different hardware...
The top on a Custom is anywhere from 1/2” thick to half the total body thickness. Much more cost and affects the tone much more. The top on a STD is 1/8-1/4” thick.
Anyone ever compared a Roscoe J bass to say another J bass like fender or Sadowsky? I'm thinking I need to get one for my arsenal and wondered if Roscoe's are just as good as some more famous for these style basses.
I have a classic 4 and the setup with the Aguilar OBP 1 is similar to a sadowsky and VtC as the tone knob stays in the circuit so you can go trad to active and 18 v of boost only at 40 and 4 khtz (same exact frequency specs as sadowsky). I bought mine new and it came with Aguilar pj pickups but I’m a Jazz guy with my jazz basses lol as such I switched to Bartolini 9js. They are darker than the Aggies but I thought the bass needed a burnished too and more low mids and the Barts originals delivers in spades. The dual inline coils are (hum canceling) 9js are even quieter than the Aguilar HC. I know Keith can do this combo. I love the Aguilar preamp mated to the Barts it’s a great combo with the classic line. My SKBs on other hand get Bart/Bart

The pic shows Aguilar JJ I tried those first before going to all Bartolini pickups so this bass has had the Aguilar PJ then JJ then finally Bartolini JJ
