Roscoe Club

Plus, how many people have a pic of themselves, their bass, and Keith? It's meant to be...

And Jimmy, the bass and I at Gard's house…

OK - I'm gonna be no help here...

I truly have no earthly reason to own a 6, other than it was what I decided I wanted. I'm no Jimmy Haslip, or Steve Bailey, or anybody else you may have heard of playing a six and/or fretless.

But it was what I wanted, and I made it happen, and it's pretty much killed the GAS, because I know it will take the rest of my life to master, and I'm OK with that. I have 'medium' hands (so my gloves tell me) and reaching the 'B' in the lower positions is a stretch (literally). But I don't go there much either...

The pain of acquisition hurts but once and then you can be over it.

How many more times do you suppose THE ONE you want is going to come up for sale before it winds up in the hands of someone like me, who will never part with it. (By which I mean mine. I don't want yours. It's yours and anyway, I have THE ONE I want.)

I totally get the expense thing - I'm still digging out a bit from a series of issues that date back to before buying the Roscoe. And there's no question that hole wouldn't be as deep if I hadn't.

But I feel good.

Do it, not do it - but we both (all?) know we'll never hear the end of it if you don't...

My Koa 5 is all I NEED right now. I think (especially after hearing more of Joe's recordings) a fretless 5 is something I could make more and better use of at this point. :)

If I ever get in a Yellowjackets cover/tribute band, I'd pick up a 6 for sure. :D

Well, I've been thinking a lot, and I think that my original, original plan of having a pair of Roscoe 5 string basses (fretted and fretless) is the way to go. I of course had this before I sold my fretless to try a 6 string one more time. To refresh your memory...

Anyway, while there are some nice fretless basses for sale right now, they are not the Century body style which I really love, nor the "JB" pickup placement which I also love - especially for fretless. I think mahogany is also the wood of choice for me, fretless and JB pups.

So, even though I have this money/guilt/justify thing (some would say obsession) I think the only way to get another "keeper" (yes, I am finally convinced that the Koa is a keeper) is to get in touch with Greg and Gard and order a "clone" of the above bass.

They did look nice together…

I heard back from the guy I sold the fretless to and I believe I will be buying it back soon. No waiting and less money. 😃

Unless I want to get my wife that tattoo she's wanted for a while. About $1,500 worth.

That's a helluva pair, Steve. Hope you can get the fretless back!

I spent the day at Roscoe World Headquarters this past Monday. I still don't know if the highlight of the day was getting to see the body of my new six string headless travel bass or the burger at Sticks and Stones. That burger was epic. I'm still thinking about it.

After much deliberation I've decided to go with JB pickups. I've already got three soap bar Roscoes (Century 3006/Roscoe Barts, SKB3005/Aggie DCBs, SKB3005 fretless) and I decided that I don't need a fourth. What I really wanted was a six string MM but, no one makes it. So, JB it is. I like the way it sounds on fretless and I'm betting it will sound killer on a fretted. It will be sound I've never had before.
