Are you sure we are both measuring in mm?.06 sounds a lot like a measurement in inches. In which case, .06 inches is like exactly 1.5mm!

I also agree that different setups are required on different basses. So many variables!

I'm a bit surprised that you have your relief set to 2.0mm/1.4mm (and you still get good mwah).

Joe! I think I want to check one more time that we are comparing the same type of measurement. It is possible that we weren't talking about relief the same...I was actually not talking about relief at all with my measurement, come to think of it. I was poorly trying to communicate that, at rest, without 'fretting' any note, I have 1.5mm clearance under my G string down to the board. This might be helpful for the owner with the bad setup, as far as setting saddle heights.

I just attempted squeezing the G at the 1st and 24th frets (with a helper) to measure what I'd call the neck relief (gap), and it was too small to measure. Probably between .1-.2mm at the 12th fret. I'd need to go get my feeler gauges, and they are out in the cold garage...nope.

That makes much more sense Adam. So you meant string height.
That not much different setup wise than my fretless. I thought that sounded like a lot of relief!

I initially thought your strings were a little high, too, but then I realized the heights I was recalling were from my fretted basses. So, I checked my Rob Allen, my king of mwah, and Rob agrees with you! I'll have to look at my Zon now!

The Zon is slightly higher than 2.0 mm
on the low B, but others are right at 2.0 mm. I believe the neck is dead straight and the fretboard is level and smooth as glass. It's good!

Reaction 1: "Uh oh, tapered strings on a Roscoe. ."

Reaction 2: "Isn't it interesting to see tapered strings sitting in saddles intonated for non tapered strings. ."

Reaction 3: "Roscoe factory spa treatment recommended for possible 911 issues (several others apparent, but not mentioned) with this bass. ." Sure is a looker though!

Potentially it is on step 15 of a fix for something that really wasn't broken.

Best bet is probably to take it back to zero and see where it lies from there.

I'm an inch kind of guy too Matt.
Of course being a CAD designer for many, many years I had to convert both ways all the time (inches to mm and mm to inches) so I can communicate either way (although I've been known to drop or add a zero here and there).

I don't know why we all just can't get along and standardize on inches.
