Roscoe Club

You both may be right in several instances. I feel like I found several lifers used...is that sort of the best of both worlds? I have bought 11 used Roscoes, and kept 7 of them. Saved a pretty penny that way - my 2 signatures, 4 standard pluses, and a standard would cost about $28,000-$30,000 new. I'd probably get a shirt or two with that order!

In the end, though, if the owner/player is happy, that's obviously what counts. I'm very happy with my 'seconds', and clients aren't complaining.

Well stated Adam!

The bottom line is for the owner/player to be happy.
But I still prefer to buy used so if I didn't totally love the bass, I can get all of my money back on a resale (because the depreciation has already occurred) and try it again. ;)

I thought Sweet Baby Ray's was just a Chicago thing. He has restaurant here, too.

A lot of favorite spots have their specialty sauce available at super markets. Atlanta has a couple of nice spots, but they don’t bottle their sauce.
Whenever I think of Bar-BQ, Gates of Kansas City. MO rushes into my memory. I recall their bottled sauces being offered at their locations, but not in stores. I’d love to get a couple of bottle of their sauces.

So to kill my GAS for some non-specific new bass I don't need, I'm thinking about tuning one of my Roscoes EADGC. Probably will take 'em both to the shop soon for new strings and Keith's magic setup. Which one should I do E-C on? I'm thinking the fretless..

Yes. Definitely the fretless Dave!
The high C sounds awesome on a fretless!

Hey folks!

I have an LG5 custom PJ that I love and thinking about making the dive to a headless LG5.

2 questions for the group:

1. How specific can I get on the options (can I get inlays or dots instead of just the 12th fret? Pope or East pre? 33" scale?)

2. do you guys have a preferred dealer or do you go straight through Keith?

Probably whatever you want. Subtle lines are my favorite on a fretless.

Keith will figure it out for you

How much do you want for the PJ?

Go through Keith.
And you might want to consider a Nordstrand pre. Sounds great with the Roscoe Barts!

And yes. Keith will install dots or ovals in lieu of the signature 12th fret inlay.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like Keith is the way to go.

Yes, ACTUALLY I have the Nord Pre (as well as a Nordy PJ set) in my current LG so looking for a different "flavor" with this build. Not a big fan of the Bart Pre bass boost, it's not what I look for in a bass eq unless paired with it's Mid Control.

But yes, great preamp! It's much chewier(?) and organic than the Aguilar PJ and OBP1 that it came loaded with.

Ok. Then absolutely go with the East or Pope. I installed both in Roscoes and both sound great in his basses (and with his Roscoe Barts). Hard to say which I prefer. IMO you’ll like either one. Maybe a slight edge to the Pope.

And Keith will do a 33” scale.

I was also going to ask how everyone is buying new Roscoes. Looks like direct is it.

Are the prices on the website still pretty accurate?

I see lots of suggestions on preamps....but I want simple passive P/J on this bass. Honestly, is the Roscoe magic 'wasted' on a passive bass? Should I just get a.......sigh......Fender for that? If I were to get a Roscoe, it would probably be a Century and not a Classic.

I'm no authority on it, but I say yes.

Why?
IMHO, the devil is in the details.
The neck attachment, as each neck is individually fit to each body, along with the neck having threaded inserts epoxied into the neck, and then being secured to the body via machine screws. This is rock solid construction, IMO.

Here's my Abbie Normal Roscoe.

Passive, btw.

I can vouch for the Pope (FlexCore). I don't have a Roscoe with one in it, but my Master Modern Stambaugh kills with the FlexCore and Nordy pups.
