Roscoe Club

For Sale - 2008 Roscoe SKB 3006 (Price Drop)

I'm thinking about making an offer on this one. Still not sure on a 6 string yet.

I had a 6er years ago, but it was an entry level bass and the neck was wider than the runway at Atlanta Hartsfield (wiiiiiiiiiiiiide). I sold it to get my fretless and never looked back.

Do Keith's 6 string necks play like his 5s? This bass is almost right in between my two that I have- and I really love the scarf joint neck on my early/mid 90s LG. IMO it feels a little better than my new one. But that could just be that I'm really comfortable with that bass, like a good pair of work boots that you just keep getting resoled.

They play pretty wide. Nice and flat necks though.

It seems as though Keith is building more of the Loaded up Standard Pluses than he is any other offering he has lately. I've had a couple Custom models built by Keith with every option and honestly the Standard Pluses I've had built looked just as good to me. You don't get much prettier than this IMO.

You're not wrong. I love the carve on both of my LGs, but I think the right piece of wood looks just as good, if not better (yeah I said it) with the flat top- like yours.

You've mentioned it before- but what kind of ballpark money are you saving by not doing the full custom?

Are you getting the custom neck with the volute? Inquiring minds.

Maybe I need a 6 string standard plus plus plus (or as I like to call them, a flattop custom) ala @Bassworship1 .

You're still going to be talking $3500-4000.
IMO you'd do much better waiting for the right used 3006 Custom or STD Plus 6. The 6 strings also go for a bit less used because they can be a bit harder to sell.
Patience, patience, patience.:)

Ditto!

Plus, pretty don't equate to sounding good! Go for the tone woods, preamp and pups that would suggest a better sounding bass.

This might look like crap, but with the right woods, preamp and pups.....Look out!!

I’ve owned probably 35-40 of the best basses out there and some that cost close to double what this Buckeye cost. I’ve not played anything that beats it tonally and Playability wise.
Dang, so glad you finally found a good one and kept it. . Wait. .

Well good thing with having one built is you can pick the woods, electronics and options you want at not have to settle.

With today’s new build prices, if it’s a lifer bass, then by all means build new and pay the high dollars for something that you never want to sell. But in the case of a 6 string that you may or may not keep, go used. At least that’s my advice.

You both may be right in several instances. I feel like I found several lifers used...is that sort of the best of both worlds? I have bought 11 used Roscoes, and kept 7 of them. Saved a pretty penny that way - my 2 signatures, 4 standard pluses, and a standard would cost about $28,000-$30,000 new. I'd probably get a shirt or two with that order!

In the end, though, if the owner/player is happy, that's obviously what counts. I'm very happy with my 'seconds', and clients aren't complaining. ;)
