Thirty years ago my brother Scott introduced me to a guy named Sammy Harrell. Earlier That year Scott gave me my first bass for Christmas, a 1966 Vox Panther (still have it) Scott was already an adult & had been touring with a band in Ga. (The Pilots). Sammy took over the role of big brother & took me under his wing. Through the years Sam showed me the notes on the bass & a few pointers here & there. I look up to both of these men & owe my ability to them.
Fast forward, all throughout my musical career I would call on Sam from time to time for advice & to share my experiences. He was my # 1 go to guy for repair, set-up & all things music. Hell, he was even my emergency mechanic. Needless to say I absolutely Love this guy.
In 2006 Sammy died of liver complications. The Hampton Roads community was crushed. Sam was a popular performing bass player/
singer/songwriter & touched so many people in his short life.
He is survived by his only daughter Lexis. Only 16 when he died, she &
her single Mother were left to tackle his estate, including a huge collection of gear & rare basses & guitars. Sam was a great Father &
provider but did not have his estate in order.
Over the last couple of years Lexis has been able to enroll in Nursing College by selling Sam's musical gear. Now she is faced with selling his last & favorite electric bass. The Roscoe Humidore Bass. And as difficult as it is to say goodbye to her Fathers last instrument, her tuition can be paid off and Sam will have taken care of her education as promised.
I was asked to help & jumped at the chance. Lexis brought the bass to me to clean up & make sure everything is in working order. She had already contacted the good folks at Roscoe & they were able to provide the information & specs needed for an add on ebay.
I suggested that she give Talkbass a try & hopefully someone in our
bass playing community would be interested in a ONE OF A KIND
