RUSH Clockwork Angels

Oct 14 in Toronto.... I will be going... Even if the album sucks!:p

I really disliked the first 2 songs but the new one is killer IMO.

Having said that, I am a huge Rush fan, but there are only a few Rush albums I can listen to in their entirety.... 2112, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures and a few others only....

Unfortunately, I find every version of Headlong Flight I've heard so far is only marginally better. Now, this may simply be because I'm hearing bad rips and don't have access to the CD yet.

I was never enamored with Snakes and Arrows' production either, but it was tolerable.

With this new song, I don't think Neil's kit has ever sounded worse.... very thin, distorting cymbals.... I mean seriously, audio professionals have really dropped the ball.

It's not the band, it's the venue. Tickets at Verizon are somewhere between 30-40 bucks for lawn, 60-75 for seats. And of course, as with every show, the best seats are more expensive. However, 147 is insanity, and definitely not a "Rush is charging this" thing. It wouldn't make sense for them to charge 45 in Atl. and 147 in Brooklyn.

I've got Yes' Fly From Here and Coldplay's Viva La Vida on vinyl and notice a vast difference in the quality of the sound. It sounds roomier.

in digital form, Fly From Here sounds WAAAAAY over compressed. Vinyl? Sounds pretty natural.

Viva La Vida on CD = good, but still kind of limited audio "roominess". Vinyl = perfection.

I imagine it'll be no different with Clockwork Angels.

It has to have a Vinyl master. If they pressed the CD master of these dynamicly compressed albums to the needle would just bounce out of the groove. Dynamic Range ratings of new vinyl pressings vs their cd counterparts are a huge difference.

Just two recent albums.

Dream Theaters newest. CD it rates a 6. Vinyl a 12.

Foo Fighters Wasting light a 5, Vinyl, 11.

Since Vinyl doesn't have the Dynamic Range a CD does those masters simply won't work. It's amazing the record industry has turned CD's greatest strength into its greatest weakness.

You can pretty much count on twice the Dynamic Range on new Vinyl vs its CD counterpart. Unless you get the rare good master. Such as Steven Wilsons more recent work.

I had a sudden philosophical moment during Headlong Flight like 5 minutes ago...weird. It was at the first "I wish that I could live it all again" and for some reason I started thinking about their history and how cool it would be to actually go back and relive those moments like their first shows, etc...And then about how much of a mark they've left on the world and me especially, and one day there will be no Rush, one day they will be gone, and I will be here wishing I could relive all of my Rush moments...creepy. :P

I'm no raging fanboi, I've got a fairly long list of Rush stinkers on my CD shelf.

I'm definitely putting this song and video in the "far above average" category for Rush.

It is kind of creepy, because I thought the same thing. I'm so glad they're still able to put out awesome music and tour. Hard to tell how much longer they will be able to handle touring, but thankfully so far so good.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought when I started listening to the song. When I heard that line in the song and saw all the old footage, I started thinking that the song must be a reference to Rush's past.

I'm 17 man, I wish that I could've lived all those moments once! :p

Seriously though, you're right. One day these guys who have put their stamp on the music world for 4 decades will not be able to continue. They'll be only a memory, I've grown up with Rush just like generations before me have, but this may just be the last to have that honor and privilege. :hmm:

I guess I'll just have to ask for many more years of Rush in my prayers at night! :D

I am seeing $170 + fees in Brooklyn on TM....that's $192 total. Outrageous. I am going the cheaper route, which is 1/3rd the price. Works for me.

I remember, during the R30 Tour, thinking that this might be it. But their playing and their onstage chemistry have somehow, inconceivably, gotten better and better since then, and I think they're having way too much fun doing it all on their terms. And let's face it, Neil can flap his gums all he wants about how much he hates touring :D, but he's a vagabond at heart, and they have touring in their blood... I bet all the world will continue to be their stage for at least a couple more tours.

I just listened to the song a few more times and decided really the only part I'm not a fan of is the chorus, besides that it's pretty sweet, especially the pre-chorus.

I'm living in Miami right now so the closest show in the first leg of the tour is in Tampa, not sure if I'll make it. Hopefully I'll get to see them on the second leg.
