Seriously though, you're right. One day these guys who have put their stamp on the music world for 4 decades will not be able to continue. They'll be only a memory, I've grown up with Rush just like generations before me have, but this may just be the last to have that honor and privilege. :hmm:

I guess I'll just have to ask for many more years of Rush in my prayers at night! :D

Ya I'm 14, and ever since I've been interested in music (about 7 years now) I've been listening to Rush, always anticipating that next album, that next tour...one of these days it will be just reminiscing of the best album, the best tour...sad thought.

Why is Lifeson #98 on Rolling Stone's all-time guitarists list? That's just dumb. Paul Simon? Lou Reed? I'll go so far as to say Lennon wasn't a great guitarist. Songwriter, sure, but straight up guitar battle--come on now--Lifeson should be in the top-9.

I look at it this way: most great bands get about a ten-year run. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, all had about a decade on top of their game, maybe a little longer. Rush has been around for almost 4 decades, now, more if you consider the early versions of Alex's group in high school going back to 1968. And unlike a lot of older bands, Rush doesn't just phone it in, and when they perform live they are there 100%, they don't look or sound like tired old men one bit. Geddy can't scream like he used to but he's managed to maintain the ability to sing in tune and still sound like Geddy. Alex could lose a few pounds, Neil is starting to jowl, but their energy levels don't seem to have dropped. And in terms of musicianship they just get better as they age. Fingers seem to last longer than vocal cords.

So for you younger Rush fans, the rock gods are smiling upon you. You are getting your solid decade of Rush, which is about as much as you can expect from most great bands, and you may yet get another decade the way these guys are playing.

It's rolling stone...the same people who don't have them in the R&R HOF. Why would they rate individuals any higher?

At this point I hope they never get in. I think that means more.

+1. I think on the 40th anniversary tour, I'll get really close seats and hold a huge banner that reads: "Lordy, Lordy, Rush is Forty!" :D

Yeah, it's a real shame about Alex... In the world of classic rock, it's usually the guitarist that steals the show, but since Neil is one of the best drummers around, and Geddy is one of the best bassists, Alex doesn't shine above the others like other guitarist do, but anyone who actually pays attention can tell he's one of the best guitarists out there too... He's in my top three, tied with Hendrix and Clapton.

That vibrato he pulls off in La Villa Strangiato to make it sound like a violin gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, and I get goosebumps listening to a song maybe once a year.

I'll tell anyone who will listen that Alex is the most underrated guitarist on the planet.

Rush is one of those unusual units where the guitarist is perhaps the least visible guy in the group.... but as I get older I only continue to appreciate the man more and more. I'm such a fan of his tone, his technique.... he can shred.... he can do Gilmour, he can do Page, he can do Hackett, he can do Andy Summers. I think he's extremely versatile.

Has anyone else tried figuring out the bass line to Headlong Flight? I tried it earlier and I just could not figure out that opening riff (I need to go replace my broken D string to play it, I think)! I can't figure out the pre-chorus either. I've got the verses and the chorus down though.
