Ryan of Muvayne Meeting

I have more pics but they are just more of the same. No live shots
Well anyway It was a great day.
We loaded into the studio to see all the gear set up, Drummer with an 8 piece kit and 10 cymbals a ride and hi hats, Greg had two VST cabs stacked and Ryan was playing through an Ampeg PR810H pro series. His rack was directly behind it and facing left towards a wall so I could not get a good look at it but it should be an Ampeg 3 or 4 plus DBX160A and Shure wireless. They walked in and look just exhausted. They joked about never getting up this early. Thay came directly from Virginia left very early in the morning to be in PA around 9:00am for this session. So the show starts and I was sitting about 10 feet in front of Chad when they started. They were awsome very tight. I was excited I could finally hear Ryan's bass rig in it's normal live state. No producer etc. I love his recorded tone and have been trying to emulate it live but after hearing his rig I felt much better I was very close to his recorded sound but his live sound is definately scouped mids all highs (almost to much highs) and a deep low end. The highs are really high to tighten up his alternate low tuning on the B string. Oh by the way he played a 5 string Warwick neck through the whole time.
Meet and greet
They left the stage and set up a road case as you walked out the door so they could sign stuff. I got them to start signing my cd Chad was first then Ryan. While I am waiting for Chad to finish Ryan grabs my arm and says nice watch. I looked at my watch and then said thanks as I start looking up He is holding up his arm to show me he has the same Movado museum watch. I made a dumb joke like bass players think alike and asked if I could get a pic with him. His manager jumped in and said a group photo will be taken outside shortly. He looks at his manager and then looks at me and says yeah no problem I will be out in a minute. I have to say out of everyone in the band Ryan was the nicest guy. He seemed to be so cool always cracking jokes and smiling just a great guy. I wish I had more time to talk to him. We only had time for 1 question while the pic was being taken so I was all ready and he must have remembered the "watch" bass players think alike comment I made and started asking me questions. What kind of bass do you play? What kind of band are you in? All I got out was how do you keep your low B so tight and not blahh. He said a mixture of set-up eq and using a detunned 4 string to record with.
Then he was pulled off to the next photo opp.
Our singer meanwhile is talking with Chad I take their pics and he hands him our CD. My drummer walks up buts in the conversation and says yeah Chris from Blood Simple is a friend of mine (Chad mentioned Blood Simple during the recording saying he was friends with them and they are opening up for tonights show) I did not believe him one day when i was talking on the phone with Chris he asked if I can call you back Chad from Mudvayne is on the other line. I said yeah right name dropper call me later. Then you mention him in the recording. What a small world. So now our CD is in Chad's pocket and we know someone in common. Woo Hoo!!!!!
Ok this is getting long I am going to take a break and fill you in on the night show in a few hours.
If you have any questions please spit them out I am just rambling so I may miss something.

Wow dude....seems like you had a ball.
I wonder why he didn't want anyone to see his rack,I mean...does it really matter?
I woulda gotten scared when he grabbed my arm though,haha...
I think....if I coulda asked him one question,it woulda been "How did you get so good and creative?" I dunno,I'd prob freeze and be all childish and such,but it seems as if you handled yourself well...

Sorry for the delay. Like my previous post said I have been sick and we are gearing up to record this weekend.
The night show at the Troc in Philadelphia was awsome. To see them play relaxed (and exhausted) in a rehersal style setting then to see them in a sold out show was just to cool.
First a quick note and missed opportunity. The two opening bands play and the gear is loaded off. We are in the balcony with perfect front and center seats. I could see everything from a birds eye view. Just so you know the balcony is where they serve beer and most of the musicians hang out. I am looking at the stage and to my amazement my buddy walks out on stage and starts doing mic checks. Holy crap he is doing sound for this. If I would of thought about it and knew he could of had us backstage etc. Even help out with sound check. Damn it. This info will tie in near the end.
They came out rippin and just a few songs in Ryan disappears back stage. The singer is now stalling. Ryan comes back out and they start the next song as soon as it was done, back stage again. Again another stall this time the singer starts harasing Ryan (1/2 joking) He comes back out and plays the rest of the set. Now I could not hear the bass go out so I did not think it was a gear failure. He played a mix bag of Warwick bases from 4 strin thumbs to 5 string thumbs and to my shock he whips out a Warwick vampire bass. I have never seen one (aside from the web site) in a store and I have never seen anyone play one. Cool!
Ok I will shorten this up since it is getting long. At one point in the middle of a song (I can not remember the name) he leans back and just rips it up for about 20 seconds. pulling popping slappin and just shreading. Knowing the song that is definately not in it. Now I am sitting in the middle of my band members starring in amazement at what is happening and after he is done all my buds look at me and say in unison did you see that Holy Crap! Now mind you the drummer is looking at the drummer most of the time singer at the singer and so on. After the show they all go the bass player stole the show hands down.
So I talk to my buddy Frank after the show at the sound booth and asked if he knew why Ryan was walking off stage in the beginning. He said his in ear monitor system was distorting bad and he could not hear. The second thing he mentioned was he could not believe how low their stage volume was. He said he was standing on the side stage near ryan and could not even hear the guitar. Usually everything is blasting.
Well that is not it but it summarizes the night in text the bast I can. It was an awsome day and Ryan took the show. He is an amazing player and I feel very lucky to meet and see him play up close.
