S/D-85: Tasty clippings from Corey's Box

Good morning fellas. My hunt for a 215 continues. I briefly considered a fridge but that didn't really make sense since I already have two 410 and this quest is more about trying something with a different vibe. Anywho, after prowling around I discovered this Ampeg SVT 215e ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed] anyone have any thoughts about or experience with one of these? They have it listed at $379, any thoughts on taht pricing? I already emailed the store re: more pics, condition, serial no., etc. Maybe they'll respond or maybe I'll have to call 'em up. Hell, maybe it's gone!

well she doesn't appreciate me calling him "BigNews", although she finds it amusing, i doubt Skunworks would go over well though. :)

Not so fast, he's been in SVT mode for over an hour...back to the hospital we go...In all fairness they told us to expect this kind of stuff. as he gains weight the medication loses its effectiveness. he likely just needs a bigger dose.

Ouch Sam, I've been there it's no fun.
When my daughter was born she had apnea and she was in the NICU for 9 days. They kept telling us she could go home and then she'd have another episode and have to stay.
It gets better I hope your little boy is doing fine.

I think it's a little high but ok. I have a 115 of that era I stuck a carvin driver in for a 4 ohm load and more headroom and I liked it. Also that pic looks like they have a b25 215 right next to it. Bee bass likes the ampeg 215 IIRC.

@Corey, prior to your demo clips my Dunwich gas was contained to the VT. Now I think I have to have all his dirt. It's killing me I blew my wad on a used pedal a week before preorders opened up.

Hey, the bright side is you have plenty of time to save up for the next time preorders open up.

Hey dudes! I may be lurking this neck of the woods for a while. I don't play stoner/doom per se, but I do play aggressive post-hardcore with a pretty heavy sludge influence. Also, I feel like you guys probably have the best taste in fuzz, heh. Anyways, I don't have much to add beyond that. I did get to play a Dirge SSStampede today and it brought the doom fo sho. I'm now looking in to getting one myself, possibly with a starve and/or feedback loop added in. Anyways, hey.

Welcome man! There's already a lot of musical variety among the people/bands in this thread, if you're interested in what's being discussed you'll probably fit right in.

Yeah those low gain clips all sounded fantastic. Nice work!

Thanks Ron, the lower gain settings make the differences between the Volt Thrower and Wizard Fuzz a lot more apparent. When everything is heavily saturated it's all just subtle differences in gain structure and features. The Wizard Fuzz doesn't really do low gain, like most of the other pedals it just sort of burbles and then roars to life. The Volt Thrower I think actually shine at lower gain settings, especially for bass. Since it's RAT based, it always maintains that rough growl and at lower settings it just sort of puts that on the attack of the notes. That's actually my favorite use of that type of tone, just enough to give some pick attack that rough growly bite, a la Unsane.

thanks Corey! I'll check them out when I get home tonight.

No problem, I'm glad to hear your baby is coming home. My wife just started her second trimester and our last ultrasound was the first we saw the baby move, so it's just starting to get real for me.

Hmm, these are interesting: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I'm pretty sure that guy is a TBer. I think I read the build thread for those cabs.

Mmmmmm yep...found the thread:

Thanks guys. Hopefully I can get a little more data and bargain the price down a bit. Maybe this one is the one.

Corey/Nick does the Cthulhu start right out at super high gain even at a low setting on the knob, as in is there still some of the classic Fuzz Face lower gain sounds on it. I know, I know, I dig old man guitar :D

There's just one knob and it's volume. The only way to dial back the gain is to turn the volume knob on the instrument down. I do that a bit in the demo tracks. Even beyond that, it's still a Fuzz Face style pedal with extra gain stages added.

FN woke up to my water frozen this morning. Finally got it going, was dreading the thought of having to get under the house with a blow drier as some of the crawl space is only about 12 inches. Man my work is cut out for me this spring, digging Vietnam War rat tunnels under my house to run new wiring and maybe some new plumbing.
I got the:
I bought a repoed 1920's farm house because the COL is retardded where I found employment blues...
Vintage wiring isn't retro cool like clothing ba dum dum
Too fat to crawl under my own house ba dum dum
DIY Home Repairs Youtubing isn't as cool a Pedal Reviews

Cool thanks, yeah I had a couple Fuzz Face types, and how you work them with the volume on your instrument. I was just curious where the extra gain compared to a standard Fuzz Face kicked in. Like noon on the the Cthulhu was roughly equal to dimed on a normal Fuzz Face. But the electonics might not even work the way I am thinking.

i loved mine, i used to run it with an 810 and the SVT VR, stacked with the 15s on the bottom. great sounding cab, and for 379 thats pretty awesome.

edit: im seeing people say that 379 is too high. i think paid 450 shipped for mine back in like 08/09, i guess prices have dropped. its the exact same box as their standard 810 so great for pairing. i loved the cab tho, only sold cause i got the 415s instead.
