S/D-85: Tasty clippings from Corey's Box

FN woke up to my water frozen this morning. Finally got it going, was dreading the thought of having to get under the house with a blow drier as some of the crawl space is only about 12 inches. Man my work is cut out for me this spring, digging Vietnam War rat tunnels under my house to run new wiring and maybe some new plumbing.
I got the:
I bought a repoed 1920's farm house because the COL is retardded where I found employment blues...
Vintage wiring isn't retro cool like clothing ba dum dum
Too fat to crawl under my own house ba dum dum
DIY Home Repairs Youtubing isn't as cool a Pedal Reviews

I didn't know samsquanch were subterranean. Get a .45, I'd hate for you to find charlie or a family of feisty raccoons down there.

LOL I need Warwick from the third season of An Idiot Abroad. Been down there to run some wiring when I first moved in, no fun, I am not claustrophobic but I had to dig the dirt with my hands when I backtracked out the wrong path I took in and was sort of freaked when I couldn't move at first. One section has like 3 inches of nails sticking down from where someone used too long a nail on the flooring LOL. We have two rescue dogs that just won't housebreak or are just too destructive indoors that are outside using a wireless electric fence. The one Ayla doesn't like her coup and uses the whole crawl space as her den LOL, probably looks like a den of horrors now from rabbits and cats that got too close to her zone of freedom(she's half beagle and Australian cattle dog).

So is this the fabled stoner doom thread I keep hearing about? I figured I'd introduce myself. I'll admit up front I'm really picky about stoner type stuff. I'm not opposed to it, but I'm usually listening to more extreme stuff.

Although as it turns out I'm currently listening to Invalid Link Removed and it's p cool.

Anyone in here familiar with some really heavy death/doom type stuff? I like doom when it's heavy as death metal and has riffs. Like the first Paramaecium album. I wish I could find more bands who played that style. Gotta have riffs. Sly Ry likes riffs.

Annnnddddd as far as effects go, I threw around the idea of getting a fuzz, but I think for my style an overdrive would suit me better. Keep thinking about one of them B3Ks.....

Last year my water froze. I spent about 15hrs under the house wrapping pipe heat coils around the pipes, electrical blankets, the works...but nothing helped.

Called the water company to confirm my water wasn't shutoff and they said I was in good condition.

Fast forward 4 days without water, several calls to the water company, and a couple hundred dollars spent in equipment to keep my pipes defrosted. My wife calls the water company and begs someone to come check it out.

Water guy rolls up and immediately went, "oh ****". Mother ****ers turned off the water in the wrong house 4 days earlier.

Needless to say they compensated me for everything plus some.

i dont listen to much stoner either, its mostly doom/black metal for me lately. Mouth of the Architect, Evoken, Pallbearer, Portal, Cult of Luna have been my recent go to albums.

Hey Ry, welcome. All my death/doom knowledge is probably kind of old, since I don't keep up on that part of the genre as much. The classic bands are diSEMBOWELMENT and Winter, if not the first bands of that style definitely really early, but they probably sound as dated as most old death metal does now. Evoken is another good one that's been around since the 90's. Officium Triste is good and have been around a long time as well. A lot of bands that straddle death metal and doom metal that came out in the mid 2000's skewed more towards gothic sounding, with synths and clean vocals mixed in a lot, like Morgion. There are probably some more modern bands that are a blending of the more current sounds of the genres with heavier production, but I'm not that up to date. Beebass might be, his band skews more heavily in that direction.

Yeah, I'd say stay away from fuzz if that's the kind of realm you're playing in. I still haven't had an opportunity to try any Darkglass pedals, I'd like to.

Ah dISEMBOWELMENT is rad. Only did one album but it's great. Has riffs and stuff ;)

Yeah I'm not as into stuff that only does slow and atmospheric and gothic, ain't nothin' wrong with throwing a badass groove in there from time to time.

Holy Shite, what a fubar. Even though I live on Main Street in my town, it's rural so on a well. I was getting ready to whore bath it with spring water I had in the house, then head to work, buy some coveralls and pipe wrap and start heating the line as soon as I got home, but higher watt bulbs in the pump and water softener oustide closets seemed to work.

I'm more into that side of the genre, myself. Not necessarily death, but more doom than stoner (clean singing or death/black growls are fine for me, as long as they're good).

My favorite band in the stoner/doom genre is definitely Yob, though Sleep (obviously more stoner than doom, except for the first album), Neurosis, SubRosa (some weird stuff going on there), and Laudanum are all up there. I'd check out the last one and also Graves at Sea if you're into the doom/death thing. They have the same vocalist, and his vocals are ****ing sick.

Local band Lycus is also pretty cool when it comes to the doom/death thing.

i highly recommend everyone checking out Portal - Vexovoid. Id assume many of you wont really enjoy it, but its worth just listening to see just how disturbing their music is. might be some of the most unsettling weird music ive ever heard. 8 string guitars used really cool as well, lots of black metal with ugly bombs dropped in the middle of parts, and their vocalist as the creepiest scream ive ever heard.

Hey Ron - was just reading in an old thread about Rat mods and saw a post from you about the FX Doctor Bass Adjust mod. I'm sure you've moved on to other dirt now, but what did you think about that mod? Worth 25 bucks? I have a US Made Rat2 without the 308 chip. I really like the way it sounds, but there's the low-end cut issue so I'm thinking of sending it to FXdoctor.

Been a big Portal fan since Outre. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: Their releases keep getting better. Have you seen the newest video? Gnarly dude.
I pretty much quit looking for new death metal bands after I heard Outre. Totally blew my mind.
