so on friday i made an impulse buy for my cover band, natural finish block inlay squier jazz bass for 300 bucks. had it setup by a guy there who actually turned out to be a guy i know, he did an amazing job. and im gonna start a thread that will have people crying in the bass section, but goddamn if this thing doesnt sound like a legit jazz bass. i A/B'd it with an american jazz at the store, setup same way by the same guy. aside from the the american being slightly (and i mean slightly) warmer, the squire slayed it. neck felt smoother and easier to move around, finish was cleaner, and the tone was a lot brighter (maple board helped with that too). for a 300 dollar bass vs a 1300 dollar bass it was insane.
if youre looking for a decent J and you dont wanna pay for a legit new one or a 70s model, i couldnt recommend a squier more. the only blemish on the bass is the word squier.
