Just wondered who made such an inconveniently large combo

There was this old blue "SG" combo I used to play through, borrowed from a couple friends I knew. It was tube, and covered in what looked like denim. Its speakers were two 10" and one 15".

Of course, like everything from that era, it seems, it only had handles on one side.

I dont have experiance with the lighter tube amps, but what I do know is that OT can be a limiting factor (like in Mesa amps). So unless they do something special like the VB-3, light weight can spell light tone.

Of course YMMV and you should give them a listen for yourself. I still think it is worth dragging a 100 pound tube around.

I could see using either a VB-3 or a Mesa Strategy for doom. In fact, I'm GASing for the latter.

The front end of the Mesa Prodigy looks pretty nice. I'm a sucker for simplicity. To be honest, if an amp starts to have more than 5-7 knobs, it starts to scare me off. But then again 250 watts is arguably less than 300 watts.

MGR had a empty peavey 215 for $20 and apair of EVM15Bs for $80!!! Slap em together and you got one bvtchin $100 215. I can even use the metal grill my guitarist made me, just didn't have enough screws. Can't wait for my Vulcan to get back to replace the 400. Which is the next head that will be restored, starting to cut out a bit and is getting pretty scratchy.

Well to be fair, 250 Mesa watts is like 180 real watts.

They are horrible at over quoting their tube amp's power.

That's not half of Mesa's problem.
They bench test their amps in unrealistic conditions.
Mesa can make a great preamp for bass but their power amps are suited for guitars.

I want to see how their amps bench out below 100hz. I could give a sh!t about 1kHz. It is easy to get loud there. Sub 100hz is where it matters. Amps and cabs.
