S/D-85: Tasty clippings from Corey's Box

Yeah I was dumb founded she they said $80 was for the pair and not each. Then quietly went along with it.

The porting design on this Peavey 215 is a lot better than the one I made into a 218 and cut in half. Its not just a triangle cut out, its a shelf port I think? The cab sounds pretty fvckin great on bass, and is damn loud already, how much will putting it into a TL606 designed cab changed that? Haven't tried it with guitar yet but I'm sure its going to be brutal.

Ok.

So some quick modeling shows those in a the right box tuned to 55hz have a power handling of about 300 watts each. Could increase that with a smaller box and higher tuning, but that kind of defeats the purpose. You dont want to run these as a mid bass cab.

Actually those hang in there pretty close with the 15PR400's till about 200 watts or so. Power compression is going to be a b!tch with the low xMax, but they are pretty sensitive drivers. They do taper off a little quicker below 100 hz.

Max, I do say, if you built a light weight/braced 215 out of 1/2" you would have a serious contender for "super cab". Those are some of the few ceramic 15's that put you into the ampeg 810 region of output, and they are going to have a lot better low end.

Thanks for the info! Dont really ever have to worry about the power handling, I normally run lower watt heads, none of my Peaveys break 300watts. For right now, I'll keep em in the cab they're in but keep that in mind for the future. I noticed the roll off, they don't have massive bass but do have massive loads of treble, I had to back that down a ton. I don't need bass though, my 18s take care of that.

Well if you ever felt like putting a different box together around them, there are a few tuning options to look at. As a note, that is 300 per driver. So a 215 is looking at ~600 watts depending on tuning.

Can you grab any measurements of the cab that they are in right now?

Rearranged the mini zoo and my gear so I would have more space to play and have a place for the drums to go. So music gear, computer, and the reptile portion of my mini zoo are in the same room. The furry portion of the mini zoo is in the smaller room my gear used to be in. So I took a few crappy pics. I must say I am loving the Terror Bass and Bassic on guitar which is unexpected but happy bonus! Still would like to land one of those old Lab Series combos or heads for guitar eventually. Plus now I can run a cord from the drums to the GK and jam(make horrible noises) with Micah Chicken Neck on drums!

Anyone seen Russian Circles? They're playing in my neck of the woods tonight and I'm thinking of checking 'em out if this purported snow storm isn't too gnarly. Been listening to some of their albums lately and digging their sound. Instrumental, but still engaging.

Squanch, I'm not sure if you'll be happy or sad to hear this, but I lent my Sublime fuzz out on a long term basis to a friend bassist. He needed a fuzz, couldn't afford one right now and is gigging quite a bit more than me so I thought what the hey.

Oh, and nice war room!

I use sequenced midi controlling real samples. Some of the stuff I use I sequence myself from scratch, some are pre recorded midi packs, some are midi packs that I alter to fit what I'm doing. That first song from the playlist I posted is all sequenced from scratch, because I had a real clear and simple idea of what I wanted on drums.

That's cool of you. Hell I can't even use mine till I have my bass all done, since it sucks on guitar(probably why it sounds so good on bass though LOL). I was telling JMac how it would be nice if someone would clone the Sub-Lime to be pedal board friendly. But that wheel is the best part, light OD to Fuzz, so a pedal would need a chicken head knob or something. I just think it is so versatile, a bassist could probably gig with a tuner, the Sub-Lime, and a Phaser and do just fine. I could never part with it or the Screaming Demon Wah. Micah Chicken Neck Pedal Manipulator loves those the best, since he can work the wah and spin the dial of the Sub-Lime, very 6 year old fun approved pedals.

I was trying to figure where I was getting a short in my chain last week. So I had the strat plugged straight in and Micah got excited to come work the pedals while I played and I said no buddy I am troubleshooting and the pedals aren't hooked up, he gave me the 6 year old I am pissed at you look and stormed off stomping his feet the whole way LOL
