S/D Bassists #86 - Dollar Tree Romance

My wife is a saint and puts up with a lot of BS. Our schedules are pretty much opposite, she works two jobs, takes care of her aging mother and hardly has a moment to herself. We both happen to have the night free so we're going to have some fun.

You married/commited relationship guys better do something nice for your lady. It doesn't have to be traditional Valentine's day lameness - just do something nice.

exactly. its simply an excuse to have a sweet night with your lady. dont tell me you V-day haters take your girls out to expensive dinners for the hell of it on random weekends because you DONT! haha

hahaha, i mean technically we had a little science help, but our odds were so low that when we heard we were having twins i seriously thought the guy was kidding.

I remember dude. Just pulling your chain. Have nice night out.

We tend to go out for nice dinners quite often now that we've got an awesome sitter.
Hell, Monday we're going to play ski ball since we both have the day off. That is more our kind of date anyways, fun nostalgic stuff.

I do, sometimes on week nights.

Another big part of the aversion to V-day is that we share the same general disdain of people and large crowds, and everywhere is crowded today.

It's far more enjoyable for us to go out and do something nice on a night where everyone isn't expected to do the same.

Bingo f'n bingo. We can't really have a good time when we're packed in like sardines and service sucks cause their busy.

The girl I am seeing now (again, long story) doesnt have a lot of nights out as she works full time, goes to school full time, and has to boys. I find that my budget for a night out has time to grow a fair bit between nights out. So when we do go out, it is usually pretty nice.

yeah the crowded thing does suck a little, but it can also be really funny if you get stuck next to weirdos that you can spend your whole dinner laughing at lol

Putting together a cheap-as-**** pedal board, i currently have a Bass Big Muff, Small Stone Nano, Boss bass Chorus, Crybaby bass wah and (don't laugh) behringer bass overdrive. Going to pick up a Joyo Ultimate Drive to replace (or maybe supplement) the Behringer, i figure i can justify one more pedal. I don't play any gigs, just goof around with a couple other guys...i'm thinking a delay? Anything i should look for that i might find for say $50?

For cheap delays I swear by the Ibanez DE-7. My board packs a couple of them.

i hate it because i get endorsed for things that i dont even know what they are. i cant wait til i get some job offer that is like "we see youre a master of configuration security evaluation and testing procedures, we'd love to bring you on!". my response back will just say "wut".

your response should be, "of course I am! how much do you pay?"

What's the worst that happens? You make a bunch of money doing something you know absolutely nothing about. THen you get canned, but you gives a ****.

Very Costanza.

I f*cked up, ignored the V day thing until yesterday, of course every restaurant in all of Pittsburgh is booked pretty solid. I figured a dozen roses should smooth over any f*ckups on my part, but I'm struggling to find a florist who can hook that up on short notice.

But in other news, I may have scored a matching Sunn 2x15 cab with beat speakers for $150. So big win for me!

We're kinda the opposite. We hardly ever go out, so I guess it's nice to be part of a crowd every now and again.

See, it all balances out!

Thanks for the tip! This was from Maharana on Theirer road. Nice people there, too. They always give me a free Chai while I wait for my take out.

The owners of SWAD actually were going to buy Maharaja (what is now Maharana) from the owners, but as soon as they found out they were Nepalese they told them that A Nepali man could never run a restaurant and wouldn't sell it to him, even though he had the money ready. They sold it to some other Indian owners instead and it became Maharana. Lots of the cooks/employees are the same apparently. There's apparently some deep seated discrimination between Indian and Nepali people to this day. Stems from the Indian Caste system apparently. Horrible!

Needless to say, that motivated them to "stick it to them" so he started his own restaurant and it's doing really really well. He was a head cook and manager for Maharaja West for years. Food is unbelievably great, best in Madison in my opinion. If you feel like it, tell them "Drew's friend "Jerry" sent you" They'll know those names for sure, and you might get some freebies out of it too. Drew (drummer in my band) helped with pretty much every aspect of getting the restaurant running. Owners are Madon and Lakshmi Shrestha and their kids/family.
