In other news, I was reminded via FB that it's Cliff Burton's b-day today. Listening to an ass-quality live recording from the Ride The Lightning tour now...
For the most part I actually enjoy winter. I`m a tubby bastard so layering clothes is a bonus for me.I don`t have to worry about the sad state of my moobs. Plus I like how quiet it gets outside,like the snow absorbs sounds(and keeps everyone indoors).
Having said that,this years winter here in Buffalo is kicking my a$$. If it`s not snowing,then the temp is hovering around 0 degrees(not to mention the "wind chill"). If it`s not ultra cold,then we`re getting hammered by a blizzard. Mostly it`s all 3 at once.
I`m looking forward to spring.

Everyone in this thread should watch this video. It's nine minutes long but totally worth it. Very informative video on how facebook likes work, as well as buying ads and buying likes. Essentially facebook is a worthless pile of crap for bands. Don't even pay money to boost a post. I've been noticing things like this for awhile and this video lays it out very well.
It was a 2 day online lecture. Free while it was streaming, but I bought it to rewatch and refresh on some of the things he went over. A lot of it was redundant for me, technique wise, but it was really motivating and made me realize I had been focusing really heavily on tracking technique and really slacking on my editing and mixing chops, basically because I didn't feel like learning all the ins and outs of a new system. When I used to mix outside the box I would get crazy complicated with edits, mults and parallel processing. Reminded me I needed to get back to that and step up my mixes. Mission accomplished, it got the lead brick out of my butt.
Hmm. Might be worth it. Less rent, twice the action...

The stuff that video Laz posted is talking about is how everyone who likes your page doesn't see your posts. You pay Facebook and they promise to show your posts to more people, but it just racks up a bunch of fake "click farm" likes and it skews the process of how many people see your posts based on how many likes, comments and shares THOSE get. Since the fake likes don't actually engage at all and they become a bigger portion of your page likes, Facebook will end up sharing your posts to fewer people than if you had less likes, but more people actually engaged with them. So you end up getting more page likes, but less actual views by real people you're trying to reach. I commented on the FB post he shared the video on, it's just "how many myspace friends do you have?" all over again. Where you have a lot of superficial stats, that only amount to bragging rights, because no one is actually looking or engaging...so it's pointless. It's some of the most economically ridiculous bullsh*t ever, reminiscent of the real estate bubble and the tech bubble before that. Just the latest attempt at selling people on the idea that revenue generates itself and everyone will make money for nothing, if everyone just keeps paying into it and bringing more people in to participate (it's NOT a pyramid scheme, for reals, shut up).
Damn surgery was brutal, uber painful, but he did a bunch of extra work to make sure he got everything that could cause migraines out so worth the pain.
Yes this is all stuff I've figured out over the years. Some suggestions: Go through your likes (go to your page, click edit page, see banned users, people who like this). Go through this list regularly, or even check your recent likes and delete/ban anything "fake". the fake ones are easy to find, the name is usually nonsense, profile photos are selfies taken in a mirror, backwards hats, dudes with too much chest exposed, pretty much any female etc. you can also view their pages if you are not sure. you'll get pretty good at picking them out.
Another thing I noticed, facebook hates when you direct viewers away from their site. So any external links you post, bandcamp, youtube, blogs etc. usually will not be displayed to many of your followers.
Facebook loves when you post videos (uploaded directly to FB) or pictures. These tend to get a lot more hits. I suggest you always post a picture with every post. I think FB likes this because it gives them more content to own. Remember any picture or video you post instantly becomes FB's property.
One thing I want to try when posting links is first posting a picture along with a message, then adding the actual link as a reply to the message. Not sure if it will work any better but who knows might be worth it if it can reach more viewers.
I've noticed that too. Pictures of recording = hundreds of views. Post the link to the actual recording...30 views.
From my understanding, the post a text post/upload an imagine then put the real link in the comments works ok, but the results are minimal.
When we first started out I was glad any time we got likes. Now I'll need to go through and start combing through our likes and try to remove the fakes.
When facebook started this paid promotional stuff I was annoyed because you had to pay for content to actually reach your users. Now you can pay and the content still doesn't reach them! It's pretty damn ridiculous.

Do any of you guys run a twitter for your band's page? I've never used twitter but it seems to me that now it may be a better platform for sharing photos and stuff of your band with your fans.
