S/D Bassists #86 - Dollar Tree Romance

So I stopped smoking weed on December 17th and now I have these freakin weird dreams all night long almost every night. All kinds of trippy ****. The worst is I'm working as a DJ in some club I don't recognize. Sometimes it's a nice place and sometimes it's a dirt floor crap hole. But I never can get the music to play. I'm struggling and struggling and no matter what I do it is just total silence and everybody is looking at me.

Last night I dreamed I was friends with Chanel West Coast, and while I was totally crushing on her she was not interested because we were friends. So I spent the whole night helping her find the dude she was interested in. :scowl:

There have been a lot more but you get the idea. I'm totally brain damaged now that I stopped smoking. I know, start smoking again right? I can't. Thinking of getting out of the club business and I need to be able to pass a drug test.

Anyway thanks for listening.

You should be far beyond the "withdrawal period" if you used enough to generate one. Not to mention you wouldn't have caused brain damage and if you did it certainly wouldn't cause dreams.

I'm a lucid dreamer, and dream anyways with or without, before and after I ever tried it.

The exact same thing happens to me. I recently quit for like a month just to make sure that was normal sober Lazarus.Bird brain functioning properly and not withdrawal. I've been smoking consistently for so long, sometimes I forget how hard it used to be for me to normally sleep through the night and not have crazy ass dreams. I'm sure there's some weird drug they could give me that would fix it, and cause weird side effects like pooping myself, but I'll stick to the natural remedy ;)

You certainly won't be dreaming or sleeping with a nightlong fear of shatting the bed.

Hey. New guy here, just registered yesterday. So hello from South Jersey! I had a couple questions about some gear and thought the S/D thread would be the best place to ask, since that's mainly what I play.

I am trying to put together my first real bass rig. I've played guitar and bass both for about 8 years but never delved too deeply into the bass side of things until recently. But for whatever reason I'm hooked on bass now, so I want better gear for that.

I'm looking for a bass, a preamp of some sort, and a fuzz or distortion. I currently use the same crappy Washburn 4 string I bought when I started playing. I've got a Seismic Audio 4x10 cab, a Crown XLS1000 power amp that I was using for guitar with my L6 Pod, and an Ibanez FZ-7 fuzz.

What I'm considering is this: a Fender MIM standard P-Bass, a Tech 21 VT Bass Deluxe to use into my power amp, and a Boss ODB-3 for dirt.

The P-Bass is all I really need in a bass and I'm quite fond of them from an aesthetic and tonal standpoint. Are the MIM ones a good option? Don't want to spend too much on gear. The Tech 21 seems to be a well thought of piece of equipment, but are they OK for this kind of music? I'm not hung up on vintage or tube stuff, and this seems like something I can get easily that'll get me a good base sound. And the ODB-3, I actually just really like the tone. I like more of a muddy and way-too-much distortion than a true "fuzz", and that seems to do that. It's sludgy and thick and has a blend knob for a little more variety.

Does all that sound like a good idea? Any other recommendations? Sorry I sound kinda like a noob, guess I am in a way. But thanks for any advice you can lend.

Sounds like a good rig to me. The only thing I would add is another 4x10 cab. I'm a big fan of the ODB3 as well, there's some good tones in there it just takes some patience to coax them out.

No personal experience with the fender basses, but I think the MIM stuff is generally pretty highly regarded.

What is your budget?

IMHO some of the really low priced fenders/squier basses are amazing... AFTER you spend some time setting them up properly. Get the right set of strings on it, and adjust the neck/bridge for playability and intonation.

Per your amp/cabs. The power amp is fine. Personally if I was looking at a SA, it would be one of their rack units. The RPM has sweepable mids, so that is my preference over the RBI.

With cabs, better cabs sound better. Figure out how loud you need to be, and get the best cab that will meet your volume needs, and fit in your budget.

Ohhhh
