S/D Bassists #86 - Dollar Tree Romance

hmm. so i'm gonna be splitting out to two amps soon, and i might do it in a classy fashion and use a stereo output from a reverb or a delay. the el capistan is tempting me quite a lot, though i'm starting to really like some reverb sounds. does anyone use one in stereo?

i wish i could afford the mf104m. ha.

Honestly Id go with your previous plan of using your Ric O sound output. That plan sounded cool with the BB on the bass side and everything else on the treble side.

Holy ****. Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus is coming to Milwaukee. Never seen Slayer before (for shame). Looks like my wife and I will be going to this. Gary Holt's pulling double duty - should be a good time!

Good bill. I wonder if there's any difference in their set with Hanneman gone. I recall getting my ass whipped in a pit at a Slayer show circa 2004. Wow, a decade's gone by?

Hey. New guy here, just registered yesterday. So hello from South Jersey! I had a couple questions about some gear and thought the S/D thread would be the best place to ask, since that's mainly what I play.

I am trying to put together my first real bass rig. I've played guitar and bass both for about 8 years but never delved too deeply into the bass side of things until recently. But for whatever reason I'm hooked on bass now, so I want better gear for that.

I'm looking for a bass, a preamp of some sort, and a fuzz or distortion. I currently use the same crappy Washburn 4 string I bought when I started playing. I've got a Seismic Audio 4x10 cab, a Crown XLS1000 power amp that I was using for guitar with my L6 Pod, and an Ibanez FZ-7 fuzz.

What I'm considering is this: a Fender MIM standard P-Bass, a Tech 21 VT Bass Deluxe to use into my power amp, and a Boss ODB-3 for dirt.

The P-Bass is all I really need in a bass and I'm quite fond of them from an aesthetic and tonal standpoint. Are the MIM ones a good option? Don't want to spend too much on gear. The Tech 21 seems to be a well thought of piece of equipment, but are they OK for this kind of music? I'm not hung up on vintage or tube stuff, and this seems like something I can get easily that'll get me a good base sound. And the ODB-3, I actually just really like the tone. I like more of a muddy and way-too-much distortion than a true "fuzz", and that seems to do that. It's sludgy and thick and has a blend knob for a little more variety.

Does all that sound like a good idea? Any other recommendations? Sorry I sound kinda like a noob, guess I am in a way. But thanks for any advice you can lend.

Welcome, I too am in jersey, Brick, exit 89... but my sister is down there in depford. I love my MIM P bass, it sounds like you've got a pretty good place to start. You may end up trying different pre's and dirt.... but the sans amp and orb should have more than enough options to get you started. I put a BlueBeard on the list of things to try, but only you know what is is your looking to achieve at the moment.

Well the short of it is...the venue F'd up and that's their way of sweetening the pot to get people in the door. All I know is its going to be our last show for a couple of months while we work on some new stuff and get some recording done.

im about to get the biggest tax return i will probably ever get.

so my point is, i need to be talked out of buying one of those hiwatt DR405s on ebay. so please, if you have a heart and want my kids to eat ever again, talk me off the buy it now button! lol

why spend the money on that? tech 21 makes these pedals that sound identical to the original amps and they are way lighter.

And speaking of tax returns, our baby was born with 3 hours left in 2013 but we can still claim him as a dependant for the full year....sometimes loopholes/technicalities work in your favour.

What's your favorite animal to eat in Greece?

I'm quite a fan of beef face meat right now it's called cachete.

Good news is if you cut the strings well you can keep them and put them back on later if the mood or need fits.

A little late on this but I haven't been able to keep up.

I got the opportunity to visit Greece last year while on R&R while deployed. My wife came out to see me. I ate allot of fish. Honestly Greece had great food. I ate allot of really good meals there. Where are you heading to? I went to Santorini and then finished in Athens. Santorini was awesome and beautiful. We got a rental and just explored the island. It's an old volcano so it has black sand. It's not really sand, but super baby pebbles. None of the nonsense that goes with sand. Greece was awesome. I'd suggest anyone considering traveling to Europe to seriously consider Greece. That opinion comes from living in Germany for about five years with the army and doing a good bit of travel. I'd say Greece was one of the best if not the best place we've visited in Europe. Ok I'll get off my soapbox now. Have fun!!!
