S.U.B. Club

i was hoping it was an awesome purple.

There is no such thing. Except for my old re-finished L2k that was nicknamed The Swinger.

On a related note, just messed with my SUB some more.

I'm pretty blown away by the tone and feel of the bass! Neck is dead straight. Too straight for me! I like a little relief on my necks. When I put a little relief on this neck the strings bottom out on the upper frets. IIRC, a small shim at the heel of the neck in the neck pocket should do the trick. Or should the shim go on the headstock side of the neck pocket?? Crap. Now I'm confusing myself. I'll figure it out.

It's more than playable as-is and sounds quite fantastic.

you have a purple sub?

Yep. Pretty rare.

It was so ugly it was discontinued...which is saying a lot when you consider the other awful colors the original SLO SUBs came in. :rollno:

This. Certainly not [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. That's not mine, but identical to it, and the color looks even worse than it comes off in that picture. This finish is not to be confused with the dingy reddish "cinnamon" color that is more common.

I keep hoping to find a white or graphite sub, but all I ever see are the same teal, blue and red ones.
What is it with teal?
All of the used Subarus I can find are teal as well.

I wanted a white one too, and waited for ages. Then, within 6 weeks I found THREE!
I bought the first one, on eBay. I paid a little more than they normally go for as I really wanted it . It was a great example, love it. Then a couple of weeks later another one appeared, and then another one this time in my town!

I have a graphite SUB5, and although I love the bass, the color doesn't wow me - I'd prefer cinnamon or white for a SUB... I'm considering painting it this summer, and blackening the fretboard - maybe a dark red rustoleum textured paint?

My SUB Sterling is blue, but I think it looks pretty cool as is...

Slapped some old flats (Lakland JO flats) on my SUB and it's got a really nice tone! I back off the treble approx 40-50% and the bass just a hair and it's full and cuts very well.

Damn thing plays really well, too. Was going to try and shim the neck, but there's no need to. Neck is straight with just a tiny bit of relief and action is low with no buzz. If it ain't broke...

PLUS, it's not heavy and balances well.

Very happy with my ugly-arse SUB!!

I picked up a 5 string EBMM sub fretless in what I suppose is called cinnamon (just a guess... sort of a nice burgundy thing).

amazing bass. love it! most in-your-face fretless I've ever owned :-D

I have no idea what the fingerboard is made of... I'm assuming rosewood though. how would I be able to tell if it's something else? I've read of pau ferro used in some fretless ebmms...

I would love a number please

PS- conversely to the previous poster, mine came from previous owner with flats that he raved about... I bought it anyway despite not being able to hear the tone of the bass at all through the heavy thick dark rope strings he had on there (thomastik... he was into making it upright-sounding). When I threw on DR hi-beams... voila, the bass came alive.

I'm looking for aggressive tones of course but what I dislike about flats is that I've found they make many basses sound similar to me. they hide the unique qualities of a bass's tone imho, and level the playing field somewhat where I can play drastically different basses with flats and the end recorded effect is more similar than unique.

Anyhow - loving my sub. picking up another one, this time a fretted 5, next week.

Keep the SUB love coming! I'm still enamored by the beauty of our Sport Utility Bass!

I picked up my second us ebmm sub 5 tonight :-)

This one has frets.

Black (charcoal?) With aftermarket black pick guard. Bridge saddles are all way off kilter in setup though and can't find hex key that fits. Time to go shopping...

Stupid local music store didn't have Dr strings so got rotos as I wanted steel. Not blown away with b compared to the fretless version which has incredible b with Dr hi beams... Will blame strings and saddles for now.. Some saddles only have one leg touching bridge! Awful height imbalance.

Anyhow.. Cool, sexy, solid, will only improve once I get it setup right.

Forgot how rough rotosound strings are LoL

S.u.b. is my choice of ebmm stingray 5 basses

Note... Store is bringing in my favorite strings just for me. Gotta love l&m in Canada!

Don

Guys' forgive me i am totally confused....what is the $279.00 bass called? and what is the $699.00 range basses called? I thought a S.U.B. was the lower priced 279.00 basses. But I have been seeing mention of a SUB in the higher price range...

Don't get me wrong the first $300.00 I get I am putting it into one of the lower priced models they are sweet.

But I need clarification..
