Hmmm. I'd better find the Sterling fast, as I'm firmly stuck in 2 SUB territory.
I mean... There was a beautiful black SUB with the prettiest darkest fingerboard tempting me... But I really don't NEED three 4 string SUBs.
Oops, there I go again saying stupid things like "need" :p

Yeah, I didn't "need" this latest SUB, but I rationalized my way past that by telling myself that it was a good deal, they're getting harder to find, and that it might be kinda cool to own all three... Still, I suppose having a couple MM basses around that didn't cost all that much isn't such a bad thing...

So that brings up an question for me how much different does the sterling sub sound from the stingray sub?

Oh, and I just thought I'd add that this latest SUB doesn't have any "weak G string" issues - same as my other EBMM/MM basses...

Also, the original pup wiring was in parallel - I switched it over to series, like my other 2 SUBs...

The 2 band EQ with the pickup in series is a great combination, isn't it?
The series config complements the slightly scooped sound from the 2EQ ensuring it remains punchy.

I'm going to stay out of here, or I may end up buying that black SUB too. ;)

I've had 4 active SUBs and want to try Series + passive. The passive wiring is very similar to G&L's tone circuit which I really like. Plus I need the 2 band pre for my Sting Ray.

Okay SUB Club: I decided against this. Not a fan of Series Sting Rays (had one) and I just don't have the heart to cannibalize my 2003 SUB for the pre.
I bought a Nordy pre-EB style pre for my 2001 Sting Ray and the Sub will retain its 2 band pre and active status.

So now the bigger question: which color combo for the SUB?

Cool
Black with white cover. Never seen that. Do it. Definitely want contrasting colors to emphasize it's musicman pickup on stage

I tried out a SUB 5 string yesterday at GC. Of what I could tell after playing it for 20 minutes was it was a pretty good deal for the price. But I passed because I don't need another bass. (We all know that that one goes!)

Didn't seem to be lacking in anything....the G string didn't sound weak and as far as these basses having that "scooped" sound I just turned the low mids up on the amp. Sounded all there. Don't know how it punches thru in a band setting, but offhand I liked it.

How much were they selling it for?

So that brings up an question for me how much different does the sterling sub sound from the stingray sub?

I haven't had my SUB very long, but I would say the differences are much closer with the SUBs than it is with the regular Sterling and Stingray... For example, both the SUBs share the same pickups, whereas the regular 'ray and Sterling have different pickups...

I would say the main differences are like those between 2 band and 3 band 'rays - sound-wise, that it... The SUB has that baked in midrange sound that works so well in a band mix, that's common of the 2 band preamps - whereas my SUB Sterling is probably closer to an SLO Special Stingray 4H, with a slab body... If I could grab another 2 band preamp for a reasonable price, I'd probably put one in the SUB Sterling, to be honest...

Is there any info in this thread about the series parallel thing?

Probably somewhere in this thread - IME, all three of my SUBs were wired in parallel from the factory, and have been switched over to series... Switching them to series boosted their output slightly, boosted mids and lows a little, and tamed the brightness a little - all desireable outcomes, IMO/IME...
