It started out with Regular J routes...But I love the Big Singles so much, that this bass needed them.

What inspired this finish Dr. Jim ?

The black bass? Nothing, LOL. It was on the in-stock page. Usually I go for figured wood topped basses. But this bass had soapbars in J bass locations mated to a swamp ash body and maple board. I have wanted to try these pups in these locations with these woods for some time.

I had the bass shipped, tried it, and was blown away by the tone. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=413386

It prompted me to custom order a pimped out Sadowsky Vintage Jazz 4 with those pups in those ( or maybe 70s) J bass locations. I just didn't want to live without this punchy J bass type tone for 6-8 months. It's that fun!
