Sadowsky MetroExpress 21 (2020)

For me there are at least 3 things putting me off of these. 1: Pre-amp/no VTC 2: Okume body wood. Really???, 3: country of origin.
Actually Okume makes a really good body wood. Weight is good, it finishes well and is quite resonant. But the quality of the wood in the neck looks far less than ideal when you look at the headstock.

Thought i saw an video interview recently with Roger stating someone in China has a copyright on the Sadowsky name, but has never used it in production of an instrument. Therefore he is going through legal formalities to secure the Sadowsky name to use on future China made MetroExpress basses. I could be wrong..

Are you saying the RSD basses are going to be... super collectible!? Gotta catch'em all!

What makes you say that?
It's a flat sawn neck; No problem with that,I'd say. Not sure if the quality is that easily detectable when looking at a picture online. Not saying that there aren't people that can, of course :)

The grain runs diagonally across the face of the headstock and the growth rings are widely spaced. There is quite a lot of runout on the fretboard. None of these are markers for a quality neck. Compare to this:

Valid points. I can't see the attached picture though.

It's a $900 bass. Pay full freight and you will get a fully appointed Sadowsky.

But do you? All of these components have been sources independently of Sadowsky and have never been used on any previous Sadowsky bass.

I liked the Metro because you knew you were getting a full Sadowsky build. With the Metro Express basses you're getting something else.

Time will tell whether these basses are "real" Sadowsky's. My judgement is currently reserved.

I get the sentiment, but don’t you think that Roger has and will keep an eye on the entire design build process. Do people doubt Ken Smith’s Burner basses? Or Lakeland’s Skyline series? You are getting the Roger Sadowsky touch on those basses. And while you may not be happy with the final product (which is perfectly fine, don’t get me wrong), I believe that the majority of people won’t be disappointed.

I’m a die-hard forever Mike Lull guy, but I would love to lay hands on a Metro Express someday. I’ve spent time with a New York series, so I have a little bit of an idea of what to expect.

You right...
Maybe we're too suspicious.
I think the truth is we're all thrilled by the idea of getting or hands on a Sadowsky for less than 800€...
It feels too good to be true...
We try not to get too excited, cause we fear the backlash of what would be a huge disappointment...
So as I said before, we'll have to wait and see...

Honestly, I'd be shocked if a Metro Express felt, played, sounded like a NYC Sadowsky.
Not for that price. I'm sure they will be good value but the real deal is still in New York, IMHO.

Well... the Japanese Metrolines felt, played and sounded like NYC's... and they where half priced... less choice of colors, no vtc, not chambered bodies and no custom build, but also no concessions on sound and feel...
For my part, the real deal was there!
