Sadowsky MetroExpress 21 (2020)

Looking forward to the next unboxing! Hoping this one hits the spot.

We are making steady progress, even if we have to do it remotely. Here is a photo of the control cavity and the string retainer from the October production.

The motto of Toyota production is "continuous improvement". That is what we are doing.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A NYC.... I think its a pretty good bass... pre-amp is really noisy... it might just be all of the basses...sound good feels good 8.15LBS... I will probably change out the pickups and preamp..also I dont have the "fancy nut" I also have a wire that goes from my 1st pot to the third that is extremely tight... (no play)

Is it the preamp or the hum from the single coil J?

That's what i'm talking about!. Thank you Roger for always going far and beyond even with all of these travel restrictions. These improvements are definitely a major upgrade. For sure I will be ordering one once they hit the states or online retailers.

You can probably diagnose it better... with the pot pulled up... very little noise.. with the pot pushed down.. it gets noisy... with the pot push down and playing with the volume knob you (I) can hear a scratchy sound like a record player...

Rotate the pan pot between the neck and bridge pickup and compare.
Where do you have the treble pot set for the preamp?

no noise from the neck pickup.. center I get noise and bridge pickup gives me noise.. treble pot is at 12 O'clock
The noise is mostly coming from the single coil J pickup. We will be switching to a humcancelling J for the MetroExpress soon. I don't know what 12 o'clock on the preamp means....if you mean "10", that is full boost and you will attract extra noise with that much treble boost.

I apologize, but I misspoke. What I meant to say was that upgrade pickups, including humcancelling J's should be available to purchase in early 2021, along with the VTC kits and 4 knob drop in preamps. You would need to contact Framus/Warick in Nashville to get an estimate on when these will be available.

Although I was a little hesitant, I pulled the trigger on one this morning. I've been looking for a downsized J5 for a while, but the only bass that fit what I was looking for was a Lakland Skyline DJ5. However, I've never really got along with a 35" scale (on any bass) and the slightly odd styling of the downsized body (IMO) have kept me searching for something else. The Sadowsky (or RSD) Metroexpress 21-5 Hybrid JP ticked all of the boxes for me on paper.

The dealer (Specialty Traders in WV) was super helpful in going over the bass for me (they even popped open the back cover and sent me a pic of the wiring). Although it was listed as B-Stock, the dealer couldn't find anything other than some really faint marks in the clear coat. As far as noise, I was told it was noisy as you would expect from any other instrument that has a single coil pickup and preamp. We shall see. I should have it in my hands some time late next week.
