Just play the E & A strings on your regular bass and be done with it.

Sounds stupid, looks stupid.
They definitely went the ridiculous route with their color schemes, too.
Of course, some people might like it.
It'd be funnier if it had like 6 control and a few toggle switches, though.

The craziest thing is, the guy who thought of this couldn't decide if he was going to introduce a 3-string or a 2-string bass and he went back and forth with it in his head and even some of his earliest design sketches for two months until he asked his four-year-old daughter what she thought.
When she said two, he asked her why.
She shrugged her shoulders and replied: "I just like two better than free."
And thus, legends are born.

Mark Sandman from Morphine played a two-string slide bass. Chris Ballew from Presidents of the United States of America played a down tuned two and three-string bass. I think it's a cool idea although I wouldn't buy one. I much prefer 2 or 3 strings over 6 or god forbid 7/8-string basses.

There are plenty of songs that rarely use a D and G string, and with enough technical ingenuity I could probably play the rest.

I knew both Mark Sandman (RIP) and Chris Ballew...they played together in a bar band called Supergroup before POTUSA and Morphine took off.

Both of them were interested in using the string limitations to force musical intent, they couldn't just waggle their fingers on autopilot when they ran out of ideas.

Supergroup was a 100% improv rock band. They would make up setlists of fake song titles and then make songs up to match the titles on the spot, next gig new song titles, etc.
