SansAmp news from NAMM

Let me try to respond to a few things. Our engineer is not here so I will find out more info next week.

The "bite" switch is useful for higher drive settings in that the sound will not get muddy and you will have more high end attack. When disengaged the sound is more full range which will be more of a benefit for cleaner type sounds.

I don't know for certain but I will guess that the EQ will work either way the blend is turned same as the Bass Driver and Para Driver DI. To me the advantage is that you now have a DI with some EQ capability if needed that can be used when the SansAmp circuit is not engaged. If you want to blend in the un-eq'd bass tone this is possible by using the parallel out as you would with most DI's.

As far as an additional parametric EQ the VT Bass has a dedicated midrange and the Character control also changes the midrange content as well as the drive and attack characteristics. We already make the Para Driver and that would be a better choice if you're looking for that feature.

The suggested list price of the VT Bass DI is $275. Same as the Para Driver DI.

I'm not 100% certain but I believe the EQ will effect the dry signal. My engineer is still away and I don't have the schematic to look at.

The sound won't be more aggressive than the original VT Bass with the bite switch engaged. The pedal will be more full range with the bite switch disengaged. This is a separate feature than the speaker sim switch.

I doubt they will be available until May.

To the tech21nyc post about the speaker sim defeat removing high end when using the pedal into an amp comment, I always used the VT bass as a standalone preamp when I used it & always found it to sound warmer & easier to tame the ice pick highs with the speaker sim defeat engaged. Now with the blend knob on this new version I might have to try it out as the Paradriver has this feature & I use it. The drive control on the VT bass is more gradual than the Paradriver & I like to dial out a little of the Sansamp voicing with the blend so this might be a worthwhile improvement. My guess is the blend is probably after the eq but before the drive as in the Para driver, would be nice if it was a blend of your original signal.

So... any word on a potential release date? Not sure it's been mentioned as I had a hell of a time sifting through all the blah blah nonsense about the mid sweep ;)

I learned that just because it's listed on Sweetwater doesn't mean it'll be here any time soon. I have a new-from-NAMM PF-800 amp on preorder from them that won't ship until May :(

Then again I'm waiting for the long boat from China for my PF amp! Are these pedals made here in NYC by chance? Just sold my VTv2 in anticipation... it's the blend and xlr I'm after! Someone here must have the inside scoop on its release!

Oh neat, if the eq works regardless if you're not using any of the VT sound, then I might be into this. I know your engineer isn't around but when he is can you see if the character knob still work without any VT blended in?

Well looks like I am going to have pick one of these up...I hated the bddi when I had one, but my v4b already gets plenty dirty enough while jamming so I dont have too much use for the b3k on my board, which also doesn't help me much while recording. If I can cop the tone of my v4b with this for recording purposes so I dont have to mic my amp while living in an apartment, itd be pretty nice.

The EQ works when the Blend control is off. The Character control only works when the SansAmp circuit is engaged. So if you have the blend part way up the character control will not change your un-effected sound.

Nice. The grind from a v4b through my two diesel 1x15s is killer, but Im moving into an apt soon so I wont be able to crank it. Ill probably end up trading my b3k for one of these when they come out. b7k is kinda pricey, im sure it sounds great but i dont know if it will get me the v4 tone.

From what I was told by someone at NAMM, yes and no. The Bite is new and changes the voice when disengaged. With the Bite engaged, it's just like the VT Bass V2, and you have the same speaker sim defeat switch. Disengaging the Bite however smooths the voicing out, and you can use that with or without the speaker sim also. So in essence, it does everything the v2 does and more.
