The pictures arent exactly fake,it's an old photography trick called forced perspective. I've seen it done when somone catches a fish and holds it out at arms length in front of them to make the fish look bigger.If you'll look at the picture of the kid with the hog,you'll notice he is slightly out of focus.That's because he is probably at least 5 feet behind the pig. The whole thing is a fraud,and sombody should confront them on it. Who wants bacon?

Maybe he's just putting the animals lives more on par with humans?

I'm staying out of this (cause I know better), but I will say it does bother me when people forget that animals are not as stupid and pain free as the hunting folk would like to believe.... Or maybe they just don't care. I dunno.

That being said, I will now resume the role of lurker. Later! :)

Most hunters look for cleanest kill possible. You act like we want the animal to run around and suffer :rolleyes: Folks, stop lumping everyone together, the kid messed up, it happens... This is no less cruel then what happens to cows who's meat you buy in stores...

I think that most hunting types see themselves more as a normal part of nature, just another predator, not something separate or better or worse.

The Monster Pig kid was using 350gr Hornady 500SW Mags @ 1900 fps/2805 ft# muzzle, 1439/1610 @ 100yds. (Ouch! my hand!)

A 45-70 Leverrevolution 325 gr rifle round from the same maker does 1875/2537 muzzle and 1575/1789 100 yds.

45 70 has a slight edge downrange but I'll bet that the shot was inside 100 yds.

The only advantage of the rifle here is that it will be easier to shoot well.

Kid probably pulled his shot in anticipation of the recoil and ended up going low and gut shooting the critter.

BTW contrast all these numbers with the "puny" 44 mag and it's "lightweight" 240gr bullet "crawling" along @ 1,500 fps and "farting" out 1,000 ftlbs ;)

I'm thinking of handguns being a little anemic for big hogs because of the lesser velocity because of the shorter barrel, and also because MOST of the bullets are designed to expand relatively quickly, which is great for thin-skinned thing such as bad guys, but not good for big hogs.

Of course you could use some bonded bullets or hard cast, and they'd be good. We used solid points on the hogs in Okeechobee... although I remember trying to get a visual on the boar hog fighting off three dogs in a thicket while I had nothing but my 1911 filled with Ranger SXT hollow points, and I was NOT very comforted by it. Too expansive of a bullet for boars unless they're pretty small, and I don't think a .45 has enough penetration even with a FMJ load. Of course they only start out around 975 fps.

That's just my opinion.

Oo. Yeah. .45acp is for people, not boar. :eek:

I would want at least a .308 for boar, personally. Hunting them with handguns, even big magnums, is just too macho for me.

Of course. However, after having seen normal-sized hogs put down with .22 and .22 mag it's not out of the question.
