Mine has sponge that I reused when I installed the EMG MMTW pickup, it adjusts just fine, no complaints.
Sorry if I missed this elsewhere but how do you like the EMG in this bass? Did you have to install a battery box? Thanks!

I love the EMG, a humbucker and single coil and no hum. I did a recording session with it and it sounds like a million bucks. My problem with the stock pickup was when bending a string, the volume would drop as the string left the range of the pole piece. The EMG has bar magnets so there is no problem. I added a battery box just for convenience but the battery will fit in the control cavity. I didn’t add any active eq, just the passive tone control that came with itSorry if I missed this elsewhere but how do you like the EMG in this bass? Did you have to install a battery box? Thanks!

Home Depot, chrome 3/8” hole plug.Where did you find the plug for the extra hole in the cavity cover? Thanks again!
To foam provides counter pressure, like a spring. The screw sets the pickup height. That is how it works on most of my basses.Wait - so you actually wanted your pickup to move and added foam to make it happen?
Is that dropped copper ? Looks good with maple neck. Nice subtle sparkle going on.Joined the "get Shorty" club this week...
Still getting used to it, but so far so good!

Ah, but not as nice as the Daphne blue that's on mine!Very nice! The dropped copper looks better on a Stingray than the daphne blue that's on mine.

A while back I decided to move to short scales exclusively and picked up an Ernie Ball short scale Stingray. I positively love it. Then I picked up a Sterling short scale Stingray. Likewise love it. The EBMM’s hardware, woods, and fit and finish are clearly superior but you’d be hard pressed to hear a difference, especially in a mix. I prefer the playability of the EBMM but the difference is not great. The SBMM is a much better bang for the buck. And it is much easier to see it as a mod platform (I had my SBMM defretted).Thanks. I love copper finishes! This is tricky though because unless it's hit with bright white light, it looks much more rootbeer to mocha brown, which still looks good to me.
Took it to rehearsal last night for the first time and really enjoyed everything about it. I was surprised that I actually used all the controls on this for different tunes, where as I normally just set & forget the settings on my Ray4's I've been using... Voicing & tones a bit different from the Ray4's, but just as good.
It was a bit more comfortable to play for the duration and my arthritic thumb joint on my fretting hand wasn't near as sore afterward... I may have some hard decisions to make soon..![]()

For me, it was not a hard decision at all.

I went ahead and installed the EMG MMCS. I don’t know if the ivory was a good call just yet but I couldn’t resist. The battery fit best under the lower pot position. If these are like my 30 year old EMG J set the battery should last a long time. Thought about keeping a fake pot there to maintain the look but I like the simplicity of volume/tone. Output is several dB lower than the original however even with the additional gain added is much quieter. A little less “growl” but a great full and flexible tone. Here is a clip from one of its first trips out in the wild dressed in EMG:

Yesterday I played my Ray SS4 and my friend's USA Sterling, side by side. The Ray SS4 sounds very close to the Sterling in parallel mode.
