SBMM Stingray Short scale

Don't want to bother you all with the dilemma trying to find replacement neck. Stumbled across this neck,FB market place, and contacted the seller, and is a 22 fret, with the correct measurements we needed to know. He was real patient about helping me with the measurements, just hoping he measured them correctly? The neck looks like a Warmoth headstock? Now I have two necks, for sale,by not doing enough research,as said before just a novice, appreciate you all not being too bad? The headstock will have 2+2 tuners Hipshots to fit the hole pattern. It’s a nice looking neck. I hope you were able to get it for a reasonable price -there’s a complete instrument on reverb for $130 shipped Drive Wildfire 4-String Short Scale Bass Black | Reverb

Not trying to be a bore, but after trying find a neck for the Oly white SBMM short scale,I found the original neck! Got in touch with person, who sold the neck,to another TBer on here. Person bought it for a project, they decided to let me have the neck, which I much appreciated. Has been a lot of frustration, and dilemma trying to find a neck for one of these short scale stingray bodies,to say the least. Necks, have to be 22 fret necks,in order to get the 30" scale neck,to match up with SBMM body. Got the body thinking I could find a neck, but after 3 necks, about gave up! I saw a conversation, about some neck projects, and the neck

I installed a Zero Glide ZS-26F nut on the SS SBMM and it’s a perfect fit.
it has improved the sound and sustain of the open strings as well as the intonation. 10th’s now play in tune up and down the neck, which is a good indicator for intonation. A huge improvement with a small investment.

I forgot I have a fret crowning file, I ran it over the frets and it made a significant difference in string noise, which had been bothering me a lot - I wasn't hearing it thru amp, so I knew it wasn't critical, but I play a lot acoustically in front of TV and it was noisy.

Also took off the Pressurewounds and went back to the Sunbeams, just fits what this bass *is* for me and my uses. First gig tomorrow, this bass gets the rock stuff, my Gib DC with flats gets the softer stuff.

Got the original neck for the Oly White SBMM short scale body, been talking about. I have the tort pick guard on there after getting it put together yesterday. Still tweaking here and there. Pick guard didn't fit around the heel of neck, and had to trim it some. Glad was able to get the original back after searching. Appreciate couple TBer's here that communicated with me,and was able to locate.

Kind of curious as to why you decided to keep this one instead of the sunburst.

Trying to decide myself. Like them both, but with needing to move couple basses. I bought the Oly white body on a whim really. Had so much frustration trying to find a neck for the white one, sort of bonded with it if you can believe that.LOL

I’m glad things ended up working out. If you decide to sell the burst body I’d be interested in buying it outright or trading you for my blue.

Both the white, and vintage burst are fully assembled. I have the vintage sunburst for sale in the classified. Haven't decided about selling the Oly white yet. Need sell one of them, and couple other basses I have.

Ok, soliciting advice here. I got a Vintage Burst SBMM short scale back in January. It’s definitely fun to play. I ditched my Ray34ca to get the short scale.

The problem that when I play it with my band, I get a sea of low end and no highs. Like none. I didn’t have this problem with the Ray34ca. I have tried different amps, different EQ and compression settings, still nada. My jazz bass doesn’t have this problem - it cuts through with top end just fine. I even get better highs with a P bass.

I suspect it’s the combo of being passive plus the Neodymium pickup, but who knows, that is why I’m looking for help. I like the Parallel pickup setting the best, and I’m using the factory installed strings (which I assume are EB short scale Slinky). I have not really adjusted the truss rod, but I have lowered the pickup, which was super close to the strings, and properly setup the bridge saddles for height and intonation. This was a GC purchase, new in a sealed box.

Thoughts?

I’m right there with you. I’m a big fan of this bass as long as I’m using an external preamp with it… Which tells me I’d be happier overall by installing an active preamp like a normal stingray. Once I run it into one of my tone shaping boxes, I’m able to get a sound I’m much more happy with.

Edit to add: I forgot to mention that the new Keeley Compressor Mini does a great job of giving the short scale stingray a bit of sparkle, clarity, and signal boost. My current setup of choice with the stingray is the MXR Thump preamp into the Keeley Comp mini.
