SBMM Stingray Short scale

thats what I’d guess my SBMM shorty weighs five or take a few ounces.

my problem with every other short scale I’ve seen minus the SBMM is that the bodies of them have awkward proportions compared to their full scale counterparts. I love love love that the SBMM and EBMM short scales look the same as the full scale models only smaller.

I’ve been trying to find a short scale capable of the P sound that I also find attractive looking and haven’t had much luck and been considering a custom build or modding an SBMM shorty into a P/J monster
Have you checked out the Sandberg Lionel? Great looking Shorty P.

Agree about the size comparison. Have you looked into the SX Ursa 1 JR, its a P shorty? I’m no expert and never compared it but I think its very similar to a P body shape. I had one and miss it.

I really like my Samick LBM10 short scale P-bass. The shape is great, but reduced in size, and the headstock is smaller and lighter than just what a shrunk P-stock would be.

You can find them on Reverb on occasion, and are very little coin.

Normally I am not a fan of short scale editions derived from a long scale model because they often cut too much corners from the sound of their originals. But the SBMM/EBMM Stingray marks a very positive exception from that. I really like the sound and still can't believe it's just passive. It sounds great played solo but also in the band mix and plays smooth like butter. My best purchase since years.

I think the Fallout Tribute (not the racing stripe USA model) is the nicest looking of the Mustang shaped basses, but yeah, it's still kind of a weird shape. I just have to picture them horizontally, then they don't look as weird as standing straight up.

Depending on your opinion of telecaster styles, the Banshee holds its own in the P category.

FWIW I spent the last 9 months trying every short scale I can find and that one stood out alongside the SBMM and Fallout in terms of build quality for the price. I ultimately went with the SBMM because I need another P bass about as badly as I need another hole in my head, and my limit for stingrays is always N+1.

Haven't played the Banshee but must say I really like the look of it and what I've read about it.

How are the frets on your guys Sterling short scales? I thought mine were pretty good until I got my EBMM StingRay Special, then I realized how bad they really were especially up higher in the neck there are lots of semi sharp edges. I may try to get some kind of file kit to attempt to get them closer to my 4H special. I also recently got a Squire Paranormal Jazz bass not made in Indonesia but China. The fret work while still not up to EBMM standards is noticably better than all my basses that are made in Indonesia. The ones on my Special are suberb! They must spend a lot of time on just the frets.

The frets on my EBMM are immaculate. The frets on my SBMM shorty are luckily really good compared to the SBMM HH I got. The HH has a TON of rough spots so after much deliberation it’s going back to GC. So I can definitely see there being a good amount of variance if my two SBMM’s are any indication.

Ok, so during my additional time at home, I decided to buy my first 6 string last month and make some noise with a Fender Player MIM Jag. (Although I've never attempted guitar) After almost 3 years of trying to learn bass, I figured why not be mediocre at 3 things? (I previously added a microKORG to my arsenal of toys although of course I have no keys experience)
Thought I would post this here in case anyone is on the fence and wants to hear the Stingray in a mix. (Better with headphones) I primarily have used it with a pick, but lately really enjoying what it sounds and feels like with finger style stuff.

You've already seen the bass here, and the strap is a 3" Clouds and Sky strap from NBD - SS Sterling by Music Man Stingray Daphne Blue

IF you'd like to see and read more, check out my thread about both bass and strap here: NBD - SS Sterling by Music Man Stingray Daphne Blue

And if you have a hankerin' for a comfortable, beautiful, hand-crafted strap for one of your delightful instruments, contact Coco and let her make a piece of art for you.

Looks great! And seller is based in the UK too, which tempts me.. How's the quality on it?

I like it, but it's a vegan strap. I want one made of 100% meat. Preferably bacon.

Quality is first rate. This is the second strap I've ordered from her. Both are very comfortable, and seem to be quite durable. Of course, I ordered them both this year, so I've not had a chance to really road test them.

I think mine is only the 2nd or 3rd of the 3" wide straps she has made, and I have to say that it is a huge improvement! Partly for the aesthetic of getting more of the beautiful pattern, and even more important is how good it feels with my 8.5 pound bass.

Sounds very tempting, might have to drop them a message! The strap does look relatively unpadded, is that the case?
