SBMM Stingray Short scale

It seems EB has recognized the sexyness of their Stingray Shortscale passive electronics and issued a LTD edition longscale equivalent.

A lightweight Okuome body is finished with a satin classic light yellow tint.
PASSIVE ELECTRONICS
Featuring the same electronics package as the popular short-scale StingRay, this limited edition 34 "scale bass includes a push / push volume boost and 3 position rotary pickup switch.
Limited to 80 pieces worldwide

Sounds very tempting, might have to drop them a message! The strap does look relatively unpadded, is that the case?
The strap has a thin layer of padding inside. Very comfortable, even more so than my more padded straps. The strap is also very light weight compared with leather straps.
In fact, I'm wearing it now! :roflmao:

I'm guessing they sell out in a couple of days.

Here’s mine ordered it from zZsounds and received it a few days ago.

Mines a hefty 9lbs. The tone knob is on wonky and looks funny when you turn it and the g string tuning peg is wobbly.

Nothin that can’t be easily fixed. The neck feels great and it’s a fun bass to play.

Part of me still wishes that it had a preamp though. I’m not an active bass guy but I do enjoy a preamp in the stingrays.

Time will tell. I might just build a stingray preamp in a pedal and put it first in my chain and try that.

One of my tuning pegs was a little wobbly also. I pushed it down firmly into the post and became more secure. I think the knob is fixable with a little allen key wrench to unlock the knob and tighten it a little higher also. Mine scrapes ever so slightly when I turn it sometimes. I’ll fix it eventually.

Overall, I still feel like this is one of the best basses available for the money right now. I agree that the neck feels fantastic and I also think the tone is one of the best I’ve heard. It’s very easy to dial in something that sounds perfect for a wide variety of music, especially with some rounds that are nicely worn in so the zing gets tamed a bit.

9 lbs? You got a beast! I like the grain of the maple on the upper frets!

Lovely! You have excellent taste.

Is that some sort of sound damping material on the walls?

The paddle portion of my D string tuner started to wobble a few weeks after I got my Daphne blue bass. I finally got around to emailing Sterling, including a short video of the issue. I heard back from them pretty quickly and a replacement is on it’s way.

I had a similar issue with the tuner on my G&L CLF L1000. They sent me a replacement immediately. I used a dab of super glue on the paddle while waiting for its replacement. It took care of the rattle right away. I still have the replacement, in its baggie, stashed in case.

As far as short scale basses ho, the only other one I would have considered in the Sterling’s price range was the G&L Fallout Tribute model. But, with an L1000 and an L2000 I thought the Sterling offered something different. What an amazing bass for the money!

I think my next foray into smaller scale basses will be a 80’s Made in Japan Fender p or p/j in a 32 inch scale until we see what EBMM and SBMM offer in shorties in 2021.

Anyone tried putting one of our SBMM shorties in this model of case? Seems like it should fit, but unsure about the removable foam piece at the bottom of the case.

Gator Transit Electric Guitar Gig Bag - Tan
I am currently using it! A fairly tight fit with bigger strap locks (e.g. the ernie ball ones). Works better with the stock strap lock. Removal of bottom foam piece is required for both (can be stuffed on the side though). Hope it helps! Happy holidays! :)
