SBMM Stingray Short scale

I like the bass too, but this review was a little too much. Personally I find the push/push volume boost to be useless so I find it kind of curious that he mentioned that while glossing over the different PUP modes which is IMO much more interesting.
He also misstated the pickup selector. But it’s ok. Really depends on the amp, depressing the volume makes a noticeable jump. That said I adjusted the pickup too. It sounds good in all the modes

Agreed. I got the feeling he wasn’t the most knowledgeable bassist from reading the review... then I saw his “credentials” and now I don’t know what to think. He talks about how he was hesitant to try slapping on a maple neck because it wasn’t suitable for slapping, in the way that Rosewood apparently is in his opinion. At least his intonation was spot on… My intonation was horrible from the factory LOL.

Played the SS Stingray at a church this morning. Here are my take always/issues:

1.) The stock tuners feel cheap and sloppy.

2.) The stock nut feels cheap and may be binding the strings in the slots.

3.) The intonation was off from the factory.

Thats a perfect storm of tuning issues, but the weather was also a factor. I had a very difficult time getting locked into pitch, even with my Peterson tuner.

Any recommendations on a tuner set upgrade?
Wow, sorry to hear that. I had none of those issues.

Makes me glad I got Daphne.

Well, I just got mine delivered today and I’m pretty impressed.

Out of the box it was setup pretty well. Neck relief and string height were spot on but the intonation was a bit off (every bass I’ve bought is off so no points lost).

Build quality is outstanding. Not a single protruding fret edge to be found. Although the nut is 1.5”, the neck is nicely thick and finished in a satin finish.

I was really impressed by the sound. I’ve toyed with Mustangs and the ones I played never impressed me. It’s clear and deep and has tons of sustain. Also, zero dead notes on the g string. Not even a note that rings less than others.

I also tried it in drop D and the D was strong and deep and clear.

I really like what Sterling did. It has a smaller but normal looking body. From my signature, you can see I’m a G&L fan and I had considered a Fallout. That body shape says short scale and sort of turns me off (though they also sound good). I also like that it has 22 frets.

This is my first short scale and so far it’s exceeded my expectations.

Lost me at "...hesitant to try slapping on a maple neck..."

Glad you're happy! I like mine quite a bit, and it fits great with my other basses. Really good for the price.
