Schecter Diamond P 5 (NBD)

I think You will be stoked...Let us know your thoughts on it though.

Sure thing, man!

That's GREAT! What color did you go with? Oh and if you get that tort PG let me know. I want to change mine out too. I just can't send mine out, as I am gigging now, and I use mine alot.

I went with white! I have a feeling a tort guard will be ordered sooner than later.

I'm usually not a burst guy, but I wouldn't have minded a P bass in burst. :)

Hey guys! Been following this thread for awhile...

I have a pretty rich history of making questionable bass purchases, but from what I've read here so far, the P-5 seems like a relatively safe bet. Problem is, I can't find a single retailer in NorCal that has one of these in stock for me to put my chimp-like hands on, so it'll be another "wait and see" purchase (It's been my experience that pics of basses online are not unlike pics of women online...what you see is not necessarily what you wind up with).

I digress. Got a couple of questions if you guys don't mind.

I like the idea of a decent 5-string P. Looks like the pickup is placed a touch further back on the body than a standard P. Can a decent P tone be dialed in, or does the positioning affect this? (I'm asking because this will be the first P bass I've owned).

I'm not crazy about the 5-in-line headstock, and am guessing that this, combined with the 35 scale, is what keeps this beauty from fitting in a standard hard case. Based on the pics I've seen, this could pretty easily be converted to a 4+1, taking the end of the headstock off and boring a new peghole near the current string tee (yes, I know this will destroy resale - don't really care about that - just want to know from someone who has one if this is do-able and will handle the issue of getting it into a roadrunner or fender case). What do you guys think?

Thanks!

JMHO:
I have played Fender Standard P basses, and this bass with the bridge pup rolled off can cop a very nice P thump. Is it an exact MATCH? No, but it's close enough for Rock 'n Roll.

As far as making it a 4+1? I'm no luthier, but I would think that the existing head stock is a little too narrow to accomplish.

The headstock mod would be less for aesthetics than the convenience of getting it into one of the cases I already have...

Actually, one of the things I really like, based upon what I've read here, is that this seems to be a reasonably-priced instrument that would require almost no mods at all to be a very playable bass. I typically wind up doing so many mods that any money I saved on the bass is spent on making it work the way I want. Now to choose - white or blue....

That's the thing that really got me about this one!

I have THE BASS for me, but was looking for something inexpensive as a back up, to take to jams, and to provide something a little different than I have while not breaking the bank. I was considering a lakland 01 (the other stuff is way more than I want to pay) but it would require a pickup change.

Hello EJ

I think the P being a little further back is the reason why I like it over a standard P for a couple of reasons...:hiding:
-Its a little cleaner further back can add slightly tighter-brighter-punchy tone.
However with that being said I did a did a show just using the 'P pickup' and I was specifically asked to play a P bass and the guitarist/singer was cool with my tone (so whatever that is worth).

Also I have no issue getting it into a Mono bag, but I'm not sure on a hardcase.

basswave/jlepre/anyone else

Have any gig/action/you playing the bass shots?

Not sure if any are out there yet of my with this...Since its only used it a live a couple of times. (My Modulus see more action live then anything else at this time). I did just shot some promo shots with a few basses and that Schecter was one of them.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Much appreciated.

MF has a decent sale going on, I may go ahead and order today. First, though, is to figure out a way to explain a $500 purchase to the wife, who complains bitterly about money spent on gear.

Perhaps I'll just tell her that I'm buying some crack.
