As has already been pointed out, the Hellcat VI is tuned the same as a bass guitar - one octave below a guitar. The rest of your post isn't even worth commenting on.

As has already been pointed out, the Hellcat VI is tuned the same as a bass guitar - one octave below a guitar. The rest of your post isn't even worth commenting on.
FAIL. The open E string of a bass guitar is ONE OCTAVE below the open E string of a standard guitar
Correct. It is a short scale bass with two higher strings.
Wrong. It is tuned like a standard bass, except there are two higher strings. But it is designed like a guitar. Just like most other bass guitars out there.

I'm completely new to this board, but i've been exploring this very thread lately, for i wanted to know more about this Schecter beauty.
My story with these instruments started with the Bass VI itself... but its not the time of long storytelling, so...
I just wanted to THANK YOU guys, for you have opened my eyes, and gave me the courage to buy a Hellcat VI at last...
I'm completely AMAZED by this BASS, it's my favourite guitar ever! I play full-time bass parts and sometimes cure-like melodies and even heavily proccessed shredding "up-the-neck", and it sounds just perfect. The only thing I dont like about it is the color of the pickguard (sunburst ofcourse), but hey...i wish everyone would have to have big problems like this otherwise beautiful, perfectly set - surprisingly, if we consider it came from korea...but not fender-like korea!
I use it as a primary instrument right now, its absolutely wonderful on stage and also in the studio.
I dont have any direct samples to share, but we've recorded some songs since i've got this bass. Here's the myspace link:

There, all songs you can hear was recorded with the Hellcat VI (mostly just bass, but sometimes you can hear the higher chords also).
So who does listen to those, and stick to their false way of thinking about its a standard guitar or even a low-shredder baritone (like the Fender Jaguar Baritone HH), well....hopeless

This thread has inspired me to take out my Fender Japan 90's Bass VI and give it another spin. A few years ago I considered going 100% with this bass because I love the sound so much, but it is tough to solo on and do slap (one of my gigs is a funk band) so I migrated back to my "standard" 6 and 4 strings. There's no denying the cool tones in it though, I have LaBella flats on it right now and it's amazing how similar it can sound to a 60's P bass or even a Hofner. The Hellcat looks interesting and sounds great to me as well. Wouldn't mind having one of those or a MM6. I didn't even know there was an OLP version made.
I tried one of these. The string spacing pissed me off so much. Its a good instrument for guitarists, but i prefer the wide necks that Ibanez and other such brands offer. I consider it a bass, but really, how many of us can play this well? (probably not fingerstyle bassists such as myself)
I can play it pretty well. But then I play guitar too. I can't play it fingerstyle though.
But I'm of the opinion that it is a good thing for bass players to play guitar also, and that it is a good thing to be able to play bass both fingerstyle and with a pick.
i guess it would be a good idea to be able to play multiple instruments, but there's a kind of awkward transition from bass to guitar, just trying to get used to the small string spacing, the much light gauge, and various other things. I've given up on trying to learn guitar, and instead focused all my energies on mastering bass.
Also, as a bassist, you probably know that when you choose one style, it's hard to be able to play both. You just kind of fall into a rhythm and are pretty much unable the other style, which is why guitar was so hard for me to learn.

I played bass for years before I learned guitar. I also learned mandolin and ukulele. It is just a matter of time and practice, like learning bass in the first place.
I used to be a pretty good guitarist, but I hardly play anymore because I play bass in three bands and don't have time. I can still pick one up and play it though, just not as well as I used to be able to.
What do you mean by style? Fingers vs. pick? I play both ways. It gives me more options as far as sound. In my main band I play all the punk and metal songs with a pick, and all the classic rock songs fingerstyle. It just takes time and practice to master both styles.
I'm not dogging on you here, so I hope you don't take it wrong. I'm just saying that the more techniques you can master the better off you are.
Oh, I totally get what you mean. But I think for most bassists, they choose to play either one style or the other. Me personally, I like using my fingers because to me, it's more versatile, as I catch the string on my fingernails, giving me the sound of the pick, or use my thumb and get that deep, bassy sound that makes the bass what it is.
a day ago i discovered the hellcat vi after almost purchasing a jaguar baritone special hh. i want a fender bass vi but the cost is just ********. i was going to SETTLE on the jaguar but then found this awesome piece of work. i ordered one earlier today, and if it ships, i should have it tomorrow. upgrading from a rumblekat. well.. not really an upgrade. more like a sidegrade.
this is gonna ****ing rule. if people thought my band sounded like sleater-kinney BEFORE..
but hey, question. this hasn't been talked about as far as i know: tuners. what would be a good tuner for an instrument such as this?
p.s. i can't wait to hear how my rat2 makes this thing sound. there WILL be recordings and pictures to follow.

i use my ears, honestly... best tuner ever.
on my pedalboard i have a failing danelectro mini pedal that does well enough to insure that i have a 440ish a before i turn on my amp and all my strings are close enough to in tune so i can tune it proper by ear when the amp is on finally. of course that's off topic. really, honestly, any tuner that can tune a bass is going to do well enough for you.
i'd like to get a nice boss tuner, but they're so damned expensive for what they are... wish the korg gt3's were still made.

Ah, I suppose after work this evening I can set up my bass rig and record some clips of my Hellcat... I still haven't brought it all inside from my car since our gig on Saturday... Don't worry, I live in a very safe neighborhood...
And I still haven't brought it inside... It was raining when I got home and then I had some alcohol with dinner and got kind of sidetracked.... Bleh....
Those things are cool. What i would do (if i could play guitar) is play the rhythm guitar's riff with this, so i'd be like i'm like the rhythm guitar with extra balls. But, don't worry, i know it's a bass.
