Got a New/Old Bass today. Or, I ordered it and it finally showed today. Serial # indicates a 2003 build, even though these were only 04-05 runs, if I recall correctly. Anyway, the Diamond Series California Custom 5 is Here!
She got some New Strings and a DEEP Cleaning tonight. Good Lord, I can't BELIEVE how Nasty some places will sell used instruments. But, she has a TON of Potential and I am looking forward to spending some Quality time figuring her out!
I realize this post is several months old but I remember playing a black cherry version of that bass. Crazy good tone and active EMGs to boot! Wish they would reissue it since it was a fine looking and playing bass.
I do have a few questions though for anyone here. My C-4's neck and frets are incredibly dirty and I'm wondering how to remove the DNA that had accumulated on the neck. I have used Simple Green and while it did do some good the frets still look rather janky. Also, I noticed the truss rod key looks either stripped or is smaller than most holes. I've actually never adjusted the neck on this bass; it has been incredibly stable, but now my strings are starting to bottom out and give fret buzz. There's also a shim in the neck pocket, though I do not know if that was from the factory or the prior owner. Any help?
So... long story warning. I've had several Schecter basses before, all five strings. I've had a Stiletto Custom, a Damien Elite, and two C-5 Customs. I loved all of them but because I preferred the tone and weight of the Ibanez SR655, so I ended up selling my Schecters and buying two SR655s.
Recently, I grew sick of my Ibanez fives because of the 34" scale and have been looking to get back into the 35" scale basses because I like using very light strings and 35" scale lets me do that and I decided on returning to Schecter. I was in the market for two basses to replace the two Ibanezes I'm selling.
Over the years, I've been looking for two types of basses to come out on the used market: an early Diamond Series Omen 5 w/ dot inlays or a Stargazer 5. As much as I always love the way that Schecters play, I've never liked their fancy inlays and always wished they had more standard looking necks, w/ centered dots or MOP blocks. I also don't like the Stiletto headstock and much preferred the Omen/C-5/Hellraiser headstock, or the Stargazer headstock. It's not just cosmetic, either. I just like my headstock to be designed such that the strings are straight from bridge saddle to tuner. Recently, I noticed that even Schecter is realizing that the Omen headstock is better, because the new Stiletto Stealth and Stiletto Vintage models use that instead of the Stiletto headstock.
Anyway, a red Stargazer 5 is the bass I really wanted but I'd never see them for sale. Then last week, a black Stargazer 5 went on sale on eBay. I had to grab that right away. I then started aggressively offering on a Diamond Series dot inlay Omen 5 on Reverb, hoping to lowball, but it seemed like we were down to arguing over less than $10 difference. You know how haggling gets, sometimes it's easy to lose sight of the big picture, that they want to eventually sell and I want to buy, so we couldn't agree on a price. I did think about just buying for list, but my pride won't let me. It's still listed over there, by the way, and has been for a year, all because they wanted to get $7 more out of me.
But it turned out just well for me. A Crimson Ghost Stargazer 5 popped up on my eBay feed yesterday. It's the one I wanted from the beginning and because I hadn't spent money on the Omen, I could afford it. Now I have a black and a red Stargazer 5 incoming. It's a bass I thought I might never get the chance to own, and I get to have two of them.
Anyway, who knows how much I'll like the sound of the bass? But I am honestly not concerned because in my experience with the Damien 5, I like the sound of EMG HZ MM5 (in series) in the bridge, and while I've never liked the sound of EMG J HZ and the fact that they use a short instead of long J does complicate issues a bit, a Lace Man O War should fit just fine.

Those look like USA made custom Model Ts. Note the script on the headstock is what they use for their American and Japanese made guitars.
Unfortunately I will need to give up my number in the club. I sold my Stiletto Deluxe 5 and bought another Ibanez (all I own now is Ibanez). I plan to be back again. I really enjoyed the Stiletto, and I want to get a higher end model next time.
Looks like Michael Anthony is no longer on the Yamaha site or at least his sig. bass isn't. I would venture to guess he may have something brewing with Schecter in the near future. If so I would LOVE to see him as an endorsed artist with the company. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part but it would be great if it happens.

A few years ago I went to Guitar Center looking to upgrade from my Ibanez GSR 200. I was looking at other more expensive Ibanez basses and some Fenders. I was about to pull the trigger on something in the $500-$600 range, I don't even remember what it was, then I saw one lone Schecter high on the wall. I did not know anything about it, I just liked the look of it. I had them take it down so I could just try it out.
The body had a thickness to it the Ibanez did not, and it was not nearly as heavy as a Fender. The neck felt comfortable so I plugged it in to the same amp I'd tested the others. I was blown away by the sound. Looked great, felt great, sounded I was sold. Then I checked the price. It was only $399 for the Stiletto Extreme. SOLD. I have not regretted it.
It is a great bass. My MIM Fender Jazz stays in a case under the bed. This is out on a stand so I can play it all the time.

I've been looking for a passive with single coils. This is humbucker with coil tap so while not exactly the same it was close enough to what I wanted at a price I couldn't resist. This is probably better anyway as there are a lot more tonal options. Let you know more when it comes.

Today I bought Schecter Diamond P Custom active 5. I've seen this bass from store and after i tried... I fell in love with it. My first 5 string btw.

I see that Schecter is also working with Zakk Wylde with building his Wylde line of guitars.
They are definitely doing something right over there in Sun Valley California.
