Yeah when I get the first one I will decide if I like the monster tones and if not will replace with Seymour duncan quarter pounders.

I have 3 P/J sets of MA 78 MonsterTone's and the Rock I'm playing I don't have any use the Bridge Pickup(These J's are different from the MonsterTone J's in the J Basses Because the J in the MA set doesn't Coil Tap) , I un-wire them for simplicity. The MA 78 MonsterTone P is in my opinion the Best Passive P Pickup made. I'm excited to try the Coil Tap J set in the J Bass.

Yep, I'll have to have the Black one. I've been waiting because heard the was going to come back out with the Diamond-J Pluses again but, with the MonsterTone's. One of these definitely fulfill my need to finally own a Jazz Bass.

The SFG one is available lefty, which I am.
This bass has a lot of nice features that make it a solid contender.

Hi everyone.

I'm new here so don't have a number yet and I can't take a photo of my Schecter Diamond Series Stiletto Studio 4 as its in the work shop for the 3rd time in a week.

I'm hoping someone could help me with a major problem I'm having with the bass.

It has the original passive EMGs 35's and active preamp and 18volt set up.
Its always sounded like, well let's just say I hate its tonal qualities. This however is the least of my problems.
The most significant problem is the persistent clunking that accompanies every note I play on it. Rendering it unplayable. My band complained, the mixers complained, the audience complained. Now I'm complaining.
It has sat under my bed for about 6 or 7 years.
Now please believe me when I say that I have adjusted absolutely EVERYTHING that can be adjusted. Replaced batteries, strings of all varieties, nut, bridge, all hard wear and the only thing left is the pups and preamp.
Even the techs have adjusted them and yet there it is, a wretched clunking noise that I describe as PUCKA PUCKA PUCKA on every string and note.
It does this at all volumes and on any amp I've ever tried it with.

I so want to enjoy this bass but I'm at my wits end.
Please help.

You state "Even the techs have adjusted them and yet", a good, qualified should be able to diagnose your problem within minutes, electrical or setup. I'm confident I could determine any problem quickly if I had your instrument in front of me. Of course I'm an old dude who is an experienced Electronics Technician and Musician that has been doing Musical Equipment repair Professionally and as a basement hobbyist for 30 years.

Does the Bass play and sound normal acoustically (notes ring out and sustain) like other similar Basses when not plugged into an amp ? If it does I would think it has a decent set-up(correct string height and bow in neck. I assume you experience this with either or both pickups selected and if so I would conclude it's not the pickups. Have you ever thumped on it with your palm or bottom of your fist while plugged in, cranked up while muting the strings to possibly hear a popping and/or crackling(maybe "Pucka PUCKA" of a loose electrical connection in the wiring or possibly loose component on the pre-amp circuit board ?? Cold solder joints can do some strange things.

I don't know what all you've tried and I'm just trying to be helpful so please don't be offended at my questions if they seem silly.

Lefty here, I love that Schecter makes more left-handed basses than anyone else. I just bought my first one, a Baron-H Vintage.

Hi everyone.

Right now its Seymour Duncan a pair of SSB4S still in passive mode.
The tone has improved but as much as I hate to say it, I think I'm going to be forced to go active eq again in order to get something I can work with.
As for equipment, I've played the bass through Ampegs, Markbass, GK, Behringer, Fender and Labsystem rigs with everything from 210's, 410's, 15's, 215s, 212's of all kinds...
I've used EQ pedals with it and I'm afraid everything returns to the electrics of the bass.
As you say it may just be that particular model EMG set up that is the problem but it has (probably unfairly) destroyed my faith in them.

Nice ! If I buy a Righty would you have any interest in swapping necks for a reverse headstock ? I wish I could find someone with a Lefty dUg Baron H that wants to swap also.

This was as close to a dUg bass as I could find (I've been looking for awhile). While a reverse headstock sounds intriguing, I think I'll leave it as-is for now. Thanks for offering tho!

No problem. I have your's on my ebay watch list along w a righty. Was thinking about getting both and selling the lefty after the neck switch. There's really not many leftys come up for sale used.

Yes I can understand the confusion. My apologies.
Let me get my act together.

Right now it does indeed have the SD"s installed in passive mode.
I mentioned here that it has the original set up because I've handed everything over to another guy who is going to reinstall the original components and investigate the issues.
My aim is to see if anyone else has experienced this and pass on any info I could gather.

Perhaps I should've just said so from the start.

Yes I've muted and thumped as suggested with no obvious noises.
I have a feeling that the tech guys have not really investigated and simply done a set up, played it acoustically, didn't hear any fret or string noise.

I was going to reply much along the lines of what Eddie (EdBo) replied.
Electric basses are not very complicated objects. When techs don't find the reason of a problem you're having, it's time to ask somebody else.

Could you make a recording of the clunking noise you're describing? Or better, a video to show as well how you're making the noise etc. It's hard to diagnose from far away, but that could help if not find the problem, maybe suggest a few things to ask a *different* tech to look into.

Electric basses are not very complicated objects. When techs don't find the reason of a problem you're having, it's time to ask somebody else.

Unfortunately the bass is with another tech right now so video or sound sample isn't accessible.

Ok, I'm here.... The numbering thing is tough to keep up, so if we're not doing that, no big. If I get at least 1 like on this post, I'm putting "Schecter Club" in my sig tho...

Just sos you know... "under the hood" she's passive VVTT, 500K PP tone pots that make the Delano Soapbars either series or single coil. Babicz solo rails and Hipshot ultralight tuners and bone nut strung up with LTF Strings. low action, and weights in at 8.5 lbs. Is my favorite and main bass.
