Just a few weeks ago, I traded off a Schecter Diamond-P passive 4 string. It was a fine instrument and there have been a few times since that I wish I would have just kept it.

Schecter: What do you guys think of them?

Great guitars....never seen a single bassist playing one in 30+ years of bass playing. I think I've seen more Surine Regency basses than a single Schechter. They are a truly rare thing here in the UK. less common than a trust worthy politician.
Had this Schecter Diamond P 5 string. Fit and finish were excellent. Played beautifully.
Passive monster tone. 35" scale. Beautiful, trippy metallic blue.
The bass weighed 12 pounds. 'nuff said.

I had a diamond series DV4 tribal bass. I can honestly say it was probably one of the best built bass's I've had. Neck thru maple with mahogany wings. Insane tribal inlay on the neck, smoked chrome hardware. Played like a dream. Didn't care for the EMG HZ's or the tribal inlay ( not my style ). I would've kept it and swapped out pups if it wasn't for the inlay. I want another one similar

FWIW, I've had the opportunity to play some of their 7 and 8 string guitars and I was fairly impressed - especially in the passive pickups they were using in the models I played. I think they were Seymour Duncan pickups, if I remember correctly. I don't have a lot of experience with their basses, but I experience random GAS for their Session Series Model T PJ bass. I have a friend who played their Stiletto 5 string who swore it was the second coming. Their model names kind of get annoying because almost everything they make has some kind of demonic model name.
Speaking,of Robert DeLeo,here is my Robert DeLeo,signature Model T.
I'm an EMG fan, many Schecters come with EMG elecs. Haven't owned a USA Schecter or an Indonesian/Chinese one....only Korean made Schecters. The only dud was a Baron H, with cheapo elecs and horrid ergos, although it was put together nicely and played well. Just a poor design IMO.
Here's what I have now, all sound huge, play very well, and are very well built. I like these basses as much as some of my others that cost 4X as much.

And a Blackjack (I have no pic at the moment) that's laden with nice features, including the sweetest 3-tone satin sunburst finish I've ever seen.
I think if you know what you like and sort through the various Schecter models, you can get a really nice bass with a high bang-for-buck ratio. I know I have.
Here's what I have now, all sound huge, play very well, and are very well built. I like these basses as much as some of my others that cost 4X as much.

Schecters are nice basses ... but I don't like the pickups and preamps they use ... If I owned a Schecter I would replace the pickups and preamp ...

I just sent back a Stiletto Stealth-5. Pretty much the same comments: P-bass pickups that don't sound much like a P-bass; MM pickup that sounds thinner than thin; Good bit of neck dive; not as light as I thought it was going to be.I tried a Stiletto 5 Session and a Riot 5 Session. I wanted to like those basses but:
1) Their poly finishes look like cloudy thick plastic.
2) Didn't like the sound. It was neither articulate or fat, just non-distinct.
3) I prefer a fatter rounder neck.
The Stiletto Stealth-5 and Stiletto Custom-5 look cool. But, they'll probably have the same issues for me.
Schecter necks are super thin, meaning the strings are very close together. You may like that; I didn't.
I played a Stiletto Studio 5 for a couple of years. That one was very comfortable, but again, the sound wasn't all that. In the end, I think I'd rather have a Squier and the extra cash, or a Mexi Fender and better sound, or an Ibanez if I found one that I liked (but the strings are close on those, too). The Yamaha TRBX505is one hella bass, cheaper than the Schechter.
This is my Schecter bass next to my guitarists KM 7 guitar. They do seem to be pretty popular among teenage Metalcore kids, I think the reason for that might be because their biggest endorser appears to be Synester Gates of Avenged Sevenfold (not sure if I spelled his name right and I don't really care) and the other reason being that they make a pretty good quality instrument for a decent price. Mine of course has Metal written all over it but it is very versatile and has an awesome feel, and is probably the best bass I could have gotten for the price, and if you're looking for a decently priced 5 string, they have a pretty good selection of them.
