Schecter: What do you guys think of them?

Had this Schecter Diamond P 5 string. Fit and finish were excellent. Played beautifully.
Passive monster tone. 35" scale. Beautiful, trippy metallic blue.
The bass weighed 12 pounds. 'nuff said.

It was the 4 string version of that exact bass I was referring to earlier. Fit, finish, build quality and looks were excellent. The fretboard was quite flat at 14", but still playable. What I was hoping for wasn't exactly what I got though. I was hoping it would be a combination of a P bass and a EBMM, or maybe a PJ. Sadly, it was none of those for tone and timbre.

All the DeLeos I've seen have had EMG's, which as far as I can tell, distinguishes them from a standard Model T. And of course the sig stuff on the headstock.

No it is solid white. Is the signature Model T,more collectible?

The Monstertone pickup in my custom P-bass, back in the late '80s was great. I've played my share of Stillettos, in GCs, over the years, and once, at an open mic. Nice stuff, but not my thing. I like the look and premise of the new dug Pinnick signature bass, but am not a fan of the 12-fret inlay. If there were a standard neck available (like from the Baron H), I would consider acquiring such an instrument.

I just sold four basses including a USA Fender P and a Carvin. Both were great basses. The one I decided I couldn't part with is my Shecter 004. Very well made and it plays, looks and sounds great!

I went to guitar center in 2012 with a 2000$ budget fully expecting to walk out with a made in usa fender, but the 800$ schecter sounded best to my ear. Funny thing was they had 2 other schecters, same model different color, and those basses sounded totally different. That bass is for sale or trade in the classifieds.

I love their high end fenderesque offerings. I don't really care for their more nu-metally semi pointy stuff although the quality is generally pretty good for the price.

I've never gotten around to playing one. for some reason, I've always associated them with teenage metal-core bass players. Sounds kind of ridiculous now that I think of it.

Anyway, what are your opinions on the brand overall?

I have a Damien Elite 4 that my wife bought me has a Xmas gift. She bought from their outlet for $299 shipped which is incredibly cheap. Overall I'm very happy with both fit and finish. You can dial in any number of tones with the active EQ. I would describe as a "modern" sounding bass. Definitely a hard rock bass IMO.

I've always heard good stuff from loyal Schecter players, but none appealed to me aesthetically - until I recently saw/bought this one:

That one along with their P plus have really caught my attention! Some of the best I've seen from them.

I just added an Aguliar OBP-3 TK/PP preamp to my Hellraiser Extreme-5. It took the bass from being already awesome to out of bounds!

I think their body shapes are uniquely modern and plain ol' sexy. Just goes to show what a wide variety of styles our unique brains find attractive. Can't fairly comment on their sound, as I've only plinked around with a couple of them unplugged

There are a number of Aguliar OBP-2 and 3 configurations, which Schecter model you own will determine which OBP you'll need. If you do decide to buy one I will direct you to where you will get the best price and service.

Thanks. But I won't need it in the near future. I forgot I want to add a passive/ active switch before that. A new preamp in number three on the list.

I just sent back a Stiletto Stealth-5. Pretty much the same comments: P-bass pickups that don't sound much like a P-bass; MM pickup that sounds thinner than thin; Good bit of neck dive; not as light as I thought it was going to be.

Schecter necks are super thin, meaning the strings are very close together. You may like that; I didn't.

I played a Stiletto Studio 5 for a couple of years. That one was very comfortable, but again, the sound wasn't all that. In the end, I think I'd rather have a Squier and the extra cash, or a Mexi Fender and better sound, or an Ibanez if I found one that I liked (but the strings are close on those, too). The Yamaha TRBX505is one hella bass, cheaper than the Schechter.

I never heard about the resell thing either. I have no plans to part with either of mine and actually will add the Michael Anthony sig bass in a month or two. My boyfriend, who is an exclusive vintage Fender Strat player is always pressuring me to buy a Fender P. I'm like, what the hell for? lol
