Schecter: What do you guys think of them?

I never heard about the resell thing either. I have no plans to part with either of mine and actually will add the Michael Anthony sig bass in a month or two. My boyfriend, who is an exclusive vintage Fender Strat player is always pressuring me to buy a Fender P. I'm like, what the hell for? lol

As I might have mentioned in this thread, I’ve been wanting a Robert DeLeo Model-T ever since they came out, but just haven’t gotten around to it. One of these days I will have money and one will be in the classifieds or ebay. Contemplating the Michael Anthony bass as well.

I can count on one hand the number of used DeLeo sigs that I have seen for sale anywhere. That should speak volumes for how much they are valued by their owners. I'm quite sure the Michael Anthony sig is worth it just going by the bass it's based on.

Just got me a new Schecter Michael Anthony signature a week ago to go along with my dUg Pinnick signature I purchased 6 months ago. For the $$, Schecter is producing amazing exceptional instruments. The thin nut/neck and Monster Tone Pickups make this unique, IMO. I already personalized my MA to my taste with a custom cream pearl pick-guard I fabracated yesterday. It's such a pleasure to play. I've never gotten around to playing one. for some reason, I've always associated them with teenage metal-core bass players. Sounds kind of ridiculous now that I think of it.

Anyway, what are your opinions on the brand overall?

I had a Hellraiser Extreme 5 for a few years (2012 - 2016). Very good bass and nothing else at that price point that I tried could touch it.

My main bass is a Raiden Special-4. It's passive V/V/T with humbuckers that feature a single coil option (push/pull on the tone pot).

It's decent. Very lightweight, small neck, inoffensive sound. There's nothing that really jumps out as extraordinary. I currently have it strung DGCF with Ernie Ball Cobalt flats 50-105.

I may upgrade someday. I like the idea of Fender-types but Ibanez has the comfort factor. I don't think I'll own another Schecter.

Here's my Session Riot 5. I traded for it. It has all the stuff I usually like: ash body, a place to rest my forearm, high mass bridge, two pups ...etc. The active EMG electronics I have not really figured out yet. I agree with the mid range quality assessment of this bass. A man could go out and make a living with it. Not just playing metal either. I wish it had a passive switch but otherwise it's very sturdy and well made. Not bad at all.

That is Beautiful ! The 3 tone controls should have center detents , start there. I usually just bump the low and maybe a little high, depending upon the song. YEMV. If your like most Bass players you like to dime everything and go. That probably won't work here. It will take a little time and experimenting but, you'll soon find everything you like. It's all there.

My first 5 string was a Schecter Hellraiser 5 -- I think I paid like $250 at a pawn shop?

Neck-through; Beautiful finish -- very well made (especially considering the price) Quality hardware (bridge, tuners). Very heavy. (my guess is 11 lbs) Narrow string spacing (like I say, this was my first 5, before I knew what features/specs I preferred. I think a few other people have pointed out the biggest flaw (IIMHO) -- the electronics. EMG pickups, but the whole bass just sounded -blah-; too generic or something, IDK.

I must re-iterate, if you can get the sound you are looking for, these are a great value. It is unfortunate that you may be judged on the appearance of your bass before you play it, but that could be said of many brands, I guess.

I Tried out a stiletto 4string once, and it looked and sounded pretty darn good. Seemed well-made and relatively lightweight, and was very easy to play. Smooth, slim neck and a very wholesome feel to it. Nice bright sound with decent low and mid warmth. Overall, it seemed like it might be a pretty solid bass, and I've been seriously considering purchasing one just like the one I tried out.

I picked up a used Ultra recently. A four string. Plays great, well made. Not crazy about the stock EMG T-Bird pickups but a lot of fun.
