I assume you're talking about me. I deleted my post only to post after yours (as I thought you were correcting the OP and not my post). My original point still stands - it simply depended upon the context.
A common mistake is to use the word "their" when "his" or "hers" would be the correct choice.![]()

Their is also acceptable, particularly when one wants to write in a gender-neutral manner.

It'd pass just fine if the gender of the person being reffered to was ambiguous.
