Screamo?

Emo tends to be more dynamically driven. A good example of a quintessential emo song is "Seven" by Sunny Day Real Estate (). Screamo musicians often associate themselves more within the math rock, hardcore, and punk-jazz movements (bands influenced by Fugazi and The Process of Weeding Out EP by Black Flag) than they would with anything metal, but they're probably one of the most "prog" and "metal" subgenres of punk/hardcore.

That's a lot different from what someone above posted as an example of Screamo. That's highly likeable. The other example was highly horrible. Words.

People use the term Screamo much too loosely. People who aren't fans of the metal call anything with screamed vocals "Screamo." I personally like basically all metal except screamo stuff. And disturbed kind of stuff, but that's another story

That's Emo? Sounds a lot like Swervedriver, which I recall having a hard time explaining to someone back in '91. But Emo? Hmph.

Yea. Emo started out as basically hardcore punk, evolved into a grungy/indie influenced hardcore genre where it then turned into more pop-punk and hardcore influenced movement this past decade.

Thursday is a bit more of an accessible Screamo band. As far as screamo goes, they're one of the few bands I follow quite a bit, although Alesana (probably one of the most equally blended Emo and Screamo hybrids) is starting to get spin from me. But I'm more of a fan of skatepunk/melodic hardcore/ pop punk.

And no matter what anybody tells you, AFI, Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music, Good Charlotte, and etc. are NOT emo. That term is another that gets thrown around way too loosely. AFI and Alk3 are Misfits-influenced punk (AFI now with dark wave influences), Hot Water Music is folk punk with some mathrock influence, and Good Charlotte is just pop punk.

I think I need to write about about punk rock...

most of these newer bands claiming to be screamo, hardcore, etc are just scene kids trying to fit into something or everything..

Agreed. It's either the fans or the record companies making the labels, very often the "scene" itself has nothing to do with a genres formation.

To reply to the original poster, the bands that were defined previously as Screamo are actually quite good and I could suggest some good songs and albums if you're willing to give them a shot. I could also suggest some "real" screamo to take a listen to also. I know some things aren't for everybody, but if you're a fan of any sort of punk/metal at all I think you could appreciate some of their stuff (then again this is coming from a kid who has everything from Fall Out Boy, Gallows, Reel Big Fish, Black Flag, to A Day To Remember albums on his iTunes).

How many times do we talk about this same thing? This is probably one of the most beaten dead horses in the history of the internet.

Most/all of the music that major labels release that has the "screamo" tag and is marketed to middle schoolers who like to spend time at the mall is not screamo at all. I'd bet money the average screamo hater has never heard a real screamo band.

ack. im getting REALLY tired of all the man-ass in public. wear some dudes jeans, for the love of bob.

my pants were one size too big in middle school, and years later, still wearing them, they still are.

if we can get rid of swoopy haircuts, gauged ears and v-neck shirts while we're all it, id be in heaven.

I wear the skinny jeans from time to time and have my ears gaged:hiding:

All aside though screaming through a whole song is stupid. I can deal with some screaming ( slipknots purity and wait and bleed are a couple of my favorite songs) but just this whole in audible whiney crap has to stop.

Hm. How do you scream inaudibly?

I honestly think that a good deal of Slipknot's music is nothing more than generic riffing and lackluster angst-laden lyrics. Do I think they are talentless or that they're crap? Nah. At least screamo is pushing musical boundaries and changing perceptions. You don't have to like it, but don't disrespect it.

alright

emo= emotive hardcore formed in the DC scene

post hardcore= progressive emo

screamo= bs name put to a genre where screaming is taken to a new level, aka ANY METAL GENRE

this stuff really pisses me off when people dont know there history

Wrong. Screamo was a term developed in the 80s/90s far before the current trend. Screamo as a term now is used by people who don't know any better to label music with screaming in it.

I cant stand metal..

But I love screamo.

To me its like this.

Metal = Deep Growly Vocals, stupid fast guitar and drum riffs. So fast and hard it just gets...stupid

Screamo = almost a pop punk type of feel to the instrumentals with some nice actual singing and some screaming.
