Screamo?

wait wait wait...

despised icon, cradle of filth, job for a cowboy... varying types of death metal

I wouldn't post that on blabbermouth, or any other metal forum. Your just asking for a flame war. LOL. I believe Despised Icon is a metalcore band, and Cradle Of Filth are some poser faux black metal. And Job For A Cowboy is barley a Death Metal band.

And whoever said hardcore is dead, you may be right. But I would listen to that and Crossover Thrash over this Screamo, Emo, Deathcore BS any day. Screamo should just change it's name to Whinemo or Crycore.

Ever listen to Gallows, Strike Anywhere or Comeback Kid?

Some of the "falsest", most commercial offshoots of screamo can be fun, like BrokeNCYDE and Attack Attack! "Real screamo" mostly bores me, though I will admit I kinda like I Would Set Myself On Fire For You. Go figure.

This thread is 6 pages of arguing over what bands fall into a subgenre of a subgenre of a subgenre.

I listen to everything from Fear Before to Despised Icon to Thursday to A Day to Remember to Foxy Shazam. If someone asks me what kind of music I listen to, I tell the punk and metal and leave it at that. I don't tell them "post-hardcore, melodic deathcore, or pop-punk"

and for the record, i never called MCR emo. i love MCR.

i was saying that post hardcore is NOT progressive emo, and then drawing a diagram of the progression of genres.

hardcore may have given birth to emo, but emo didnt MAKE post hardcore.

MCR is clearly a post-hardcore flavored punk rock band that got super creative.

i would. because all of those bands are terrible. i could care less what they are technically called.

killswitch is a metalcore band. despised icon is clearly deathcore. i hear pig squeals. dead giveaway. granted they are a little more hardcore than death metal, but death metal none the less.

i like the IDEA of crossover thrash, but i can only name 3 bands that ever did it right (that i can stand to listen to).

metallica, megadeth, and municipal waste.

anthrax gets a nod, but they are too cartoony for me most of the time.

production quality counts.

Agreed. It's either the fans or the record companies making the labels, very often the "scene" itself has nothing to do with a genres formation.

To reply to the original poster, the bands that were defined previously as Screamo are actually quite good and I could suggest some good songs and albums if you're willing to give them a shot. I could also suggest some "real" screamo to take a listen to also. I know some things aren't for everybody, but if you're a fan of any sort of punk/metal at all I think you could appreciate some of their stuff (then again this is coming from a kid who has everything from Fall Out Boy, Gallows, Reel Big Fish, Black Flag, to A Day To Remember albums on his iTunes).

I've tried giving screamo a shot and I just can't get into it. Stubbing your toe on the coffee table should not inspire a love song. All kidding aside though I just can't understand a single word that's being screamed/sung. It's just noise to me. Talentless noise.

Hm. How do you scream inaudibly?

I honestly think that a good deal of Slipknot's music is nothing more than generic riffing and lackluster angst-laden lyrics. Do I think they are talentless or that they're crap? Nah. At least screamo is pushing musical boundaries and changing perceptions. You don't have to like it, but don't disrespect it.

I wouldn't argue that. I don't like a lot of slipknot's music I was just using those 2 songs as an example. Screamo is not pushing any musical boundries. The instrumentals might be great but getting past that inaudible getting murdered sound created by the frontman (I refuse to recognize as a singer) is almost impossible for me. I disrespect screamo because I don't beleave the genre's earned any respect. It's whole purpose is to piss off 13yro goth/emo kids parents and make middle school outcast seem deep and violent.

Carnivore. That is all.
