Searching for a Short Scale

He did various mods himself and posted the photos in another thread. That paint job was his own work.
EDIT: I guess if I'm going to contribute anything to this thread I should also say that a LP Jr DC is my daily driver. I love it. Mine is black.
Ahh ok I've been scouring the interwebs looking for one with the glossy finish LOL. I had pretty much made up my mind about getting the Wattplower II before chatting with Andy Levine. I don't love the looks of the Dub King, don't hate it, but don't love it either. I think I'll end up with the LP, the YouTube tones I've heard will fit in nicely with my current basses (P Bass/Stingray).

The first couple years with the LP I was using Gibson Brite Wire strings because I loved how it sounded when I first got it. After a solid shielding job with some conductive paint, I've got LaBella White Tapewound strings on it and I'm really loving how it sounds and feels to play.

So I'm on the hunt for a short scale bass...the contenders are:
Mustang
Jaguar
Les Paul Junior Tribute
Reverend Wattplower II

Price not being a factor, opinions on the 4 I listed (FWIW I'm leaning more towards the Mustang or the LP) My concern with the Jag or Mustang is that they are not going to be distinctly different from my P Bass, while the LP and Wattplower will be.
Have you tried a Mexican p/j Mustang. I’ve got one and stock wiring renders the bridge pickup and tone control pretty much useless when the bridge is selected. Neck only sounds really good however, enough to overlook the rest of the control group until I decide if I’m keeping the thing. I’d prefer a straight VVT and that’s what it will wind up with if I keep it. So far i’m not wanting to let it go.

There are only a few short-scale basses I'd consider buying, so only a few I'd recommend.

The Wattplower is pretty good, too.

Please consider a Hagstrom Swede bass. Not the superswede, but the short scale LP style. It's the most versatile shortscale I have ever tried. Maybe even the most versatile overall. And the craftsmanship is amazing, even if some give the RI a bad rep, my experience is 100% positive. Anyway, it's got, among other things; pup selector, series/paralell pushpull pots, single coil/ humbucking switch. Plus it looks stunning

I’ve never seen one of those. Just watched a demo video and I’m impressed.

Why would you do this to me. I had my mind made up! Found a white one and you are right they are stunning. I do like the versatility of the electronics.
