Second bass

i live in california and yea theres a GC like 20 miles away but i dont have my license yet so i am at the mercy of my brother/parents and so i want to narrow it down to a few basses so i dont spend all day trying different ones and stuff - wait u said warwick and spector are smaller bodies? how do they compare to my current squier p body? now that i think about it the body on my P is huge but still light - id like a heavier body but not backbreaking

i think ive narrowed it down to 3 basses as my main (hollow body to be added later) :

-used Warwick corvette standard 4 string $700
-new spector legend classic 4 string $529

now i need some more help - point out the flaws of each bass please (leave the good things out :D)

I think you should try to play each of the choices you have listed. If you play more than one of each kind that would be ideal - one bass of the same kind can feel and play a little different than another. I just got a Spector Legend 4 with the P/J Pickups - and it sounds and plays amazing - they are made in Korea by the way. I also have the cheaper Spector Performer DLX < this one is made in China - but it is a freaking great bass for the money. Not sure where you are located - but you could check my Spector out if you are in the area. Good Luck Man - you'll make the right choice when the time comes.

hmm i havnt until i read this - im having a hard time finding them used - which model do u suggest? id like to steer away from the fender look to get a change of scenery

what a skyline JO? i looked on laklands website and couldnt find it:confused: - the stingray is just barely out of my range - for that kind of money id like to have a warranty or something in case it hits the fan

suprisingly having a hard time finding used G&L's - no craigslist within a 100 mile radius has one - ill look on the bay but i dont like getting instruments off there cause u basically at the mercy of the seller - the squier will stay with me as sentimental value :D ill prolly defret it and put some flats on it if i dont get a jazz type bass

where did u find the legend with the P/J pups? have u played the ones with 2 J's? id like to know how they compare

i got him down to $915 shipped but the fret markers look like jew stars :D

i think ive passed on the G&L (that model anyway) cause i cant stand the fender p style bass any more

the warwick streamer is still in my radar but im kinda on the fence

I can definitely understand wanting a bass with a different look to it, but should you change your mine the G&L basses are very, very versatile instruments and a new Tribute can be had for ~$500 shipped, if not less.

You mentioned Stingrays before, didn't you? HH models do a great job, and this one is dropping in price: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=441713

u make a very compelling arguement about the G&L but for now i dont think i can stand another 10 minutes with that body :rollno:
ive talked to that guy selling the HH and hes pretty adamant about the price so ill try to wait till he gets desperate and sells for cheap :D

I have played and owned a pretty good deal of basses in my day. Humbuckers, single coils, hollowbodies, etc. The Skyline JO blows all of the rest out of the water IMO. I've never been so satisfied with a single bass in my life since my '98 Fender Jazz(bless it's heart), and given time, the JO might just be enought to beat her out as well. You can pick one up in the Classifieds with enough searching, and if you don't like it, you could always flip it as a VERY desired trade bait, or sell it straight and have enough to buy another significantly wonderful bass.
