Secret Service and Prostitutes?

As far as what they did, you can't tell what degree of breach or violation may have occurred without access to the SS's plan. I'm not assuming there was some egregious act committed until that fact becomes clear. They can't sterilize everybody's room all the time and the guys may not have actually broken any rules except for embarassing the service.

People deserve second chances. I think they will look closely at each guy and at exactly what he did. They usually don't like to throw people away because they screwed up one time. Hopefully the good guys who made a spectacular mistake will get a spanking and soldier on, and the guys who make a habit of this sort of thing will get the opportunity to explore the job market.

Young guys, full of testosterone, things will happen. Hopefully the guy at the top of the food chain remembers when he was young and full of testosterone.

People are human. What are we talking about here?

Some young guys, lonely and far from home, on a sultry tropical night, having relations with a beautiful professional, working in a well-regulated industry? Is that worth getting too upset about?

I'll tell you what I'm upset about. I'm upset about the jackass who wouldn't pay the young woman. He's the real villian in this story.

Wow. Some of you are completely missing the point. These people are entrusted with the security of the President of the United States. They are trained to put their life on the line for him.They seriously breached their responsibilities and exposed the whole envoy to security lapses. They do not deserve a "second chance." If a malevolent foreign power knew that prostitutes were an easy entre to the president's security (and they do), they would be on that like a skull cap. They committed some incredibly stupid gaffes. If I were the President, I sure as hell wouldn't want anyone that stupid responsible for my security.

Not only that, but for anyone who's been interviewed by SS or FBI for a high level security clearance, this is the kind of stuff they're interested in. Anything that could be used for blackmail purposes, bad debt, 'secret' lifestyles, or any kind of thing that would prompt someone to need covert cash fund.

Seems weird to me, I know someone who was SS/Prez detail and he's as far from this kind of stuff as you could imagine.

Also, if you're in this 'position' pay the damn 45 bucks.

We would have never heard about this whole thing if the dude had zipped up and just paid the $45 bucks. If you're guilty of serious moral and legal indiscretions with serious political ramifications, national security, etc... its probably best not to make waves over the small details.

I haven't read anything indicating they breached anything except their code of conduct. Everything I've read so far indicates this was the advance team, probably performing the normal liaison and surveying sorts of things. It is important, but they were doing a job that probably gets very boring.

They got too high, sounds like, but until a credible source reports something substantive, this matter looks like 99% media and 1% aggravated stupidity. Maybe an alcohol problem or two in there.

You can't keep these guys sealed in plastic bags or inside a bubble. They should avoid this sort of thing in a foriegn country, but the issue of a security breach is nowhere near clear.

Many of us who are less than perfect owe everything we have to a second chance. I needed two or three, that I can think of off the top of my head. Sin and redemption, Munji. They didn't molest children.

Common sense tells any one(that is any one with common sense) that the presidents life was indeed at risk.


Tim Weiner, author of "Enemies: A History of the FBI," has won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for his work on national security. Weiner said employees' indiscretions, if proven true, could have put Obama's life at risk.


"You're trading seconds for pleasure for potential hours of danger," Weiner said.

It's not like there has never ever been elaborate setups to assassinate leaders before...:rollno: this is the President of the US who's probably #1 on many lists. Whether it seemed to be no big deal or not, this could have been real bad had some nefarious people been involved.

BIG lapse in judgement IMO

He said something like "no law violated except for the law of common sense," and he said they "violated (their) own code of conduct." Not exactly fire and brimstone.

He also say that in principle they are supposed to lead a "monkish" life. C'mon.

In theory, anything any of those guys does outside of the monkish lifestyle could potentially put the president's life in danger. I think in this case that is a very long and thin line, and whether we like it or not, that makes a huge difference.

There are layers, and there are checks and balances, and the guy who handles the dog, he is probably there to drive the routes and film things, and to count bathrooms and kitchens. Do you think they invite the guy with the dog or the bomb handler to the final briefings and top level strategy meetings?

Tough to say how much mortal danger would or could have occurred. They have a few guys with chastity belts retrace all the fools' steps, re-count the bathrooms. No harm done.

The Treasury seems to be saying the SS guys may have violated their code of conduct. Defense is saying the military fellows violated a curfew?

Look at the language these guys are using. If there were any criminal statutes being bandied about, I haven't seen them. This is a tempest in a teapot, in an election year.

I will boldly make a prediction: The SS guys will lose the most behind trying to use their creds to get the girls in to the hotel with their credentials. The Service will call that "misuse of gov't credentials" which can be interpreted as "embarassing the Service and the President" which is actually much worse. If these guys were connected in any way, they wouldn't be handling dogs and bombs. Might be bye, bye DC pension.

I bet bomb handlers are never out of work. How many can there be out there?

The military will protect their own, and nurture them. They will not throw away the little birdies who soiled themselves.

I wonder what kind of torture the military will visit on those guys out in the Columbian jungle, for screwing up in such public fashion? I'll bet it is pretty bad. But I bet they won't lose their jobs. Unless they are pre-identified screw ups, which I doubt, that is just.

Guy can shoot inside six inches at 600, 1,000 yards, and he wants to live in the jungle. Replace him with a monk. Find a monk who wants to do that job.

Hey man...dude's makin' minimum wage, bustin' his arse for The Man...tough day at the 9-5...double-shift weeknds...got his wife naggin' on one ear and an angry boss in the other..."Secure that vicinity! Post up in that location!"...lunch sandwich went stale...only pullin' enough to get by...and you're givin' that poor fella grief? For all you know, she might have forgot to put the burger in with the fries. It's enough to make anyone 'full of testosterone' crazy for some free tail...like Giraffe said, he's no monk...just a man...it's what men do...bump on the job...
