Hi Pierre - Martin's just got back from holiday (I think) but I'm not sure when I'll next call in the gallery (maybe today) - I'm hoping the body has gone to the finishers and that the neck has rthe frets on - but I'm not sure what they have done. I know the next stage for the neck is to be varnished in the shop as they are doing a matte finish on that... I'll let you all know - and if I spot any other beauties I shalll report back...

How you getting on with the 4 finger picking stuff? I'm around for another lesson if you fancy one.

Hey Pierre and others

Just a quick update - saw my neck yesterday and since it's going to have a matt finish on it the guys are doing on site (the body has yet to go to the finishers) anyway since I have some of that stunning spalted maple on there - like a few of the other basses in production at present - you can see just how awesome this top wood will look:

I also decided on a Delano circuit and a piece of flamed bubinga for the ramp...

The wait continues - I reckon it'll be done by August but it could well be a year to the day so the start of September - just depends how long the damn finishers take....

Mike, your headstock is looking real nice and really looking forward to seeing the final pictures. The finishers typically take about a month, so hopefully not too long now. ;)

Either way it looks a whole lot quicker than the SEI 9. Next week it will be 13 months since I ordered it and there is still quite a bit of work required before it can go to the finishers. I'm seeing Martin tomorrow, to check out the LEDs and hopefully kick start the build progress again. Serve me right I suppose for wanting a custom shape and being quite so picky...:rollno:

Well I find out in about 2 weeks whether I need to sell my fretless 7. I havn't spoken to Martin yet about a fair price for it but I am hoping that if I do have to sell I get a good price for it.

I think I will also have to ask Paddy to allow me to put a [R] after my number for 'resting'. So that I can ressurect it again when I rejoin the Sei family.

Still the good thing is, if I do sell my fretless, I can start the process of choosing my replacement, which should be fun.

Thanks for the words of support both here and by PM. They are really appreciated. I am quite relaxed about it because I have an OLP 5 string [my daughters bass which I have now nicked as she is at Uni] to play and as I was able to set it up really well, I will put in a decent pickup and a new pre and it will do the job untill I rejoin the brotherhood of the Sei.

The other thing is that I had forgotton was how good it is to start the process of choosing a new Sei. Especially the planning stage where I can basically choose anything I want and distill my thoughts over a few months until I decide what I want. All I have to do is then wait until the funds become available place the order.

If I do sell, I will keep people informed of my planning for my new Sei and get some advice and feedback from you all to help the process.

Many thanks for the prompt. I think it is good news and that my fretless is safe :hyper:

I have been awarded an Injury benefit award which basically makes up my wages to 85% of what they were. This is a temporary award which will continue for as long as I stay with my current employer and could them be made permanent for the rest of my life.

The good bit is that the Injury Benefit Award is only granted if it is accepted that my employer was wholly or mainly responsible for my illness. In my case it was deemed they were over 90% responsible - the highest catagory of apportionment there is. This obviously has a knock on effect for my outstanding court action against them as it will be harder for them to deny responsibility with this award in place.

In summary I find out exactly the amount payable monthly to me in the next week or so, but I am very confident that it will be sufficient to allow me to keep the Sei. As a christian I did say a word of thanks over this.

Anyway enoungh about me, what is the news from everyone else and their Seis new and old? It has been a little quiet recently which I hope was not caused by my situation.

Looking good Mike!

Here's my new (used) Sei;

Maple on flamed swamp ash, flamed maple and mahogany neck, b/eye maple board with purfling, red side LEDs, Barts, Schack and piezo bridge; luvverly. Light weight too. It's a beaut! Up until recently belonged to Howie I believe....I'd be interested to know who commissioned it and when. It's certainly softened the blow of losing my Alembic.
