SEI Waiter

7string said:
This message may arrive late, but best of luck tomorrow. Even going through all the options and woods is a great experience. Oh, and the waiting isn't too bad....!!

Hi

Cheers.....well I did it, I'm now officially a Sei waiter, only 10 months to go.

I've gone for a headed Flamboyant single cut series 1, 6 string, Walnut wings, buck-eye burl front and back facings, a flame maple and bubinga neck, Martin had a plank of flame maple which, although un-planed looked beautiful. I'm also having Blue side LEDs, Bart pick-ups and a Schack preamp, and black hardware, and a ramp between the pick-ups.

I was unsure whether to go headed or headless, my flamboyant 6 string is about the most comfortable bass that I've played in 20 odd years. Martin showed me a beautiful single cut headless, which had come back from being sprayed, and was waiting to be routed, someone in the States has ordered a matching pair, fretted and fretless.

These Sei basses are really beautiful - I was lucky enough to have a play on a couple recently and was really impressed, they were six stringers and the necks were a very shallow c and made playing really easy.

I had sold a warwick six previously becuase it was too chunky - and to be honest I was not using that C string. If I was getting another sixer it would be one of these.

I had a custom headless 4 string made for me in the 80s and I still kinda like the look - as long as you get the balance right, mine had loads of wenge etc in it and worked ok - although it was heavy!!

Anyway I hope yuou all enjoy your new basses - sorry for the rant:)

Well many congrats, you will not regret it - the guys are great to deal with.

Great sounding spec, you going for a normal flam or the offset? :hyper:

Sounds like you need your own build thread (pm me a link if u do so I can subscribe) - and don't forget to enter the waiters support group.

I felt the waiting would be the hardest part, however looking back (and I can because I got about 2-3 weeks waiting left :bassist: ) the waiting has actually been quite exciting.

they do work fast, i saw that bass saturday morning when i collected my Epi cab and it was no different thean in the pictures that you posted on the last page.

You got that right - ME WANT NOW :hyper:

Wondered if you managed to sneak a looksee ;) - I know I'm biased but I'm loving that Madrona. You don't see many Madrona tops and even though I fell for the piece when I first saw it I was a little apprehensive whether it was going to work or not.

Martin has so far delivered big time.

How's the Epi cab - I saw them while I was up there.

you wouldnt believe how great this little 112 sounds, ive already asked Alex to hold onto another 1 for me, i should be getting that in a week or so (once i have sold some Aguilar cabs on ebay)

but i was very surprised to see how pretty that top is, and the bass clef inlay is a nice touch as well :D

Cheers guys - life is great. :smug:

It's the phone call I've been longing for since the 4th Feb - the one that says "It's Done" - I think you can relate Matthew :)

You know what - I think the waiting has all been worthwhile. It's all been part of the experience. If I just got my hands on it straightaway it just wouldn't have been the same.

Next week can't come quick enough - fortunately I got a gig to keep my mind off it...

I played a 6 string Sei today at his shop in London. What a nice sounding bass! The workmanship and playability was super. I really liked the way it felt in my hands and I'm not a 6 string player at all.
What a nice guy too!:)

That be fighting talk that be :)

If you are popping in Monday your more than welcome to have a little play.

....and if you see any bits of a lacewood 7 string around, could you take pics of that (says the guy who wants to see his bass take shape !!!) :crying:

On a serious note Paddy, how will you survive until Tuesday.. that's over 48 whole hours away :D
