Selling gear on TB

I have some things I really need to sell and would like to post them in the classifieds, but I have never done this before and need to find out some basics.

I have a Paypal account, but I have only used it to buy stuff in the past. What I need to know is if someone wants to buy from me online, exactly how do most people handle payment options? When I have bought stuff from other people on Ebay, I used my Paypal account and it was pretty easy but I've never been on the selling/recieving funds end of a deal online before so I don't know how to use my account for that. I guess I am kind of dense about this but the Paypal site doesn't explain it quite clearly enough for me or maybe it's so easy for most people they don't go into great detail about it. I suppose I could just request payment as a cashier's check or something, but don't most people use credit cards or paypal accounts which would be a faster method to get what they purchase?

I am a noob at this and could really use some good instructions/advice. I want to make sure if I get into dealing my gear in the TB classifieds it is a positive experience for everyone involved.

There are some stickies about selling stuff on the intenet (check the classifieds).

Couple of things I've learned:

1. Be concise and accurate in describing your item. Don't write a book, simple yet effective. You gotta have at least one pic.
2. Paypal is painless (the bastards rake in billions with their fees but it's kinda the standard in transferring money over the internet now). I also give the option of mailing me a Money Order (for smaller stuff under $400ish) or Cashiers Check for large items (basses, amps, etc)
3. If you have a bad feeling about a deal...just walk away.
4. Keep in contact with your buyer. Confirm the shipping address before you send (I usually ship to the Paypal verified address, with signature required, delivery confirmation, & shipping insurance per Paypal's seller protection guidelines).

Here's my usual transaction: Buyer contacts me and low balls me (j/k but seriously at least 90% of the time these days), I negotiate the price or stay firm, buyer accepts, I send my paypal address to buyer, Paypal funds arrive, I confirm the shipping address at least one more time, ship the item, leave feedback once item arrives, confirm with buyer that everything's ok and ask for feedback.

I'm sure some others will chime in...but be sure to at least search for some threads.

I appreciate the quick answer. Sending your paypal address to the buyer is one of the things I was wondering about. The etiquette of how you handle your transactions is also really helpful.

I did indeed check out the sticky on how not to get ripped off on the internet... definitely worth reading.

No prob! One more thing, I usually check out the buyer before even contacing them back. Search their post history and definitely check out their feedback (not to be stalkerish, but I think of it has being thorough).
