Seven String Sei

I have a six string headless Flamboyant in the works with a late spring/early summer '06 delivery projected...Martin has been responsive to my inquiries and questions; I've asked quite a lot of him with this instrument, and as soon as I get something viewable, I'll post it here.

Sure hope I haven't jinxed myself by doing this here :hiding: ---long lead times...uuggghhhh!

later...

Now just waiting on the single custom Kent Armstrong pickup - no pre amp just straight too jack - and we will be ready to rock and roll.

Hey Matthew,

Had the opportunity to play with a few of your mates at a wedding in Taunton earlier this year (although I can'tfor the life of me remember their names).

Just curious why theres a hole for preamp / controls on the back of the bass, when you are going direct to jack? Is it so you have the option later?

Cheers,
J

You are correct about the hole in the back. As this is a custom bass and I can't try one beforehand I am trying to cover all eventualities. I therefore had the preamp compartment cut in case I want one in the future. However I may go with an outboard pre first. Still, with Martins usual skill, you will hardly notice the cover to the comartment as it will be cut from the back peice

As regards the wedding in Taunton, you have made me quite curious!

Thanks for all the kind words, I spoke to Martin Petersen on
the phone yesterday and from the conversation I think he is very pleased at how it is looking. [I have yet to see it in the flesh].

thanks for the kind words. If you do pop in to see Martin, could you give me an update :D As I live in the west country now I rarely come up to London now even for gigs as all my gigs are now local to Devon and Somerset.

Perhaps we need to arrange a UK TB gtg so we can all try each others basses out.

Cant wait to see your pics, any bass Martin makes is very special. I also know what you mean about paitence.

XO A 7 singlecut, very nice - we have to keep Martin on his toes because we wouldn't want him getting bored would we :D

That's why I bought my Sei (again six string, headless Flamboyant - good choice!) second hand from Martin. I'm sure it will be worth the wait though - and I'm really looking forward to when yours is done as well Matthew... it's looking really good.

Wulf good to hear from you, if you are going to the Lee Abbey thingy in February, you should see it. I hope to be picking it up last week of Jan so LA will be its first outing!

That looks pretty small to hold 7 strings, but maybe that's just me. :p

It will have a string spacing of 17.5mm, the same as my fretless so I will be used to it. Some people might find it a little close but from looking at the ongoing thread on string spacing it isn't the tightest.

Slapping is the only style where I have had to alter my technique a little, but as I have little cause to play slap at the moment I can just practice in the comfort of my own home until I get it right :D

Mike - next d2d or at Lee Abbey in february if you are going! Btw how is you rig getting on!

Belka - I will PM you with any dates.

Therealthing - thanks - saw your web site - looks good! - your gig with Kirsty is very similar to a project I was involved in. Accoustic really leaves you exposed but it is great fun.

Matthew
