Seven String Sei

Hi Russ

Great to hear from you. Yeah, Martin did a great job on this bass.

While I was picking it up he showed me a 5 string SC with Nordstrand pickups which I think will be going for a review so it should be interesting to read what is said.

Can you share what you will be ordering or will you leave it for your own thread.

Regards

Matthew

Well, first and foremost, there'll be a six- or seven-string partner to my current 5. Same look, more strings! Debating about whether to go for the big seven... but I want another trem, and Kahler don't make seven-string ones! :D

The other one I'm thinking of is basically a six-string "baritone classical guitar", tuned E-E, 32" scale, fretted, piezo or Lightwave pickup, nylon strings (a la Rick Turner basses), tight-ish string spacing. This one would be mostly for my own amusement as I attempt to learn classical guitar tunes and pretty, chord-melody stuff.

Funnily enough, I've discussed an almost identical idea with Rob Green at Status - he's already built one:

32" scale, EADGBE, 14mm string spacing, 8cm deep body, piezos + mag pup.

Lovely bass Matthew! :bassist: Am always blown away by the quality of Martin's work!

Geoff thanks, coming from the guy who owns IMO the nicest
bass on this planet that is really nice.

I took quite a few photos of both my new Sei and my older fretless. I have placed them into Photobucket, so if the link works people can look at as many or as few as they wish.

Ps please ignore the fact that I loaded the pictures in the wrong order so my new bass pictures are towards the bottom.

Matthew

pps The wenge in the photo's has come out much too dark. It should be chocolate rather than black. I will try and redo over the weekend.

My idea isn't a million miles away from the Status Hellborg bass, but a solidbody, and with the nylon strings for a "softer" sound. I'm back in the UK briefly next week, so I'll try to get to The Gallery and discuss it with Martin then. :D
